The Vicksburg development and summary has been quite good.

Especially compared to other Union generals, specifically McClellan who was a complete p**** and showpony.
I’ve always been a George Thomas fan as well. One of the only Virginian West Pointers who stayed loyal to the Union.

Gettysburg, actually. A lot more to see there. Their museum of artifacts that were found there is extensive. I was particularly fascinated by a story the guide told of one of the artifacts found a couple of years after the battle in Devil's Den. It was a confederate sharpshooter and shortly before we visited, a couple passed through and recognized the gun as belonging to one of their ancestors. That claim was subsequently verified. If I remember correctly, the ancestor survived the battle, but lost his gun in the chaos.

I have been to Gettysburg on 3 occasions, if you go, be sure and hire a park service guide for a private tour of the battlefield, they drive your vehicle around the battle field and give a person a personal tour. Before you do it, visit the map room and museum so you get a better understanding of how the battle went.
We were there on July 3rd, 1990, the anniversary of Pickets Charge, it was haunting looking at the tree line where the CSA was massed, and then move to the stone fence and see the only point they crossed the fence. Every soldier that made it over the wall, was either killed or captured by the North.

My only beef is that they took a good, 45 minute show and turned it into a 2 hour show with all of the commercials. Holy ****!

Actually, without commercials it is 1 hour 20 minutes. That is 20 minutes of commercials per hour. The going rate for 99% of TV programs today is 18 minutes of commercials per hour. So this is only slightly worse than normal.

Really? That surprises me. It sure doesn't seem like it in real time.

Minnesota still has a Confederate battle flag captured on that ridge by the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment. Virginia has repeatedly asked for it back. Minnesota has told them to pound sand. The regiment had 80% causalities at Gettysburg and the flag was taken by a Medal of Honor winner. It's our Minnesota heritage now, not Virginia's.

Iowa also has a number of captured civil war flags at the capital, I believe that they are being restored at this time.
A couple of years ago, S. Carolina asked to have one of their flags back, it was not a battle flag, not sure what happened too it.

He liked to drill and march. I’ve read he was less than sympathetic to the plight of enslaved
I noticed that as well
Thought it was quite well done, especially the Vicksburg segment. Took a major gamble and won.

I have read by many sources that stated the McClellan was great at rebuilding the army after the defeat of 1st Bull Run, the troops regained their spirit and were itching for a fight to show everyone what they could do.
The problem the McClellan had was he hated to take the army out and actually use and lose a portion of it. He was like a guy with a beautiful vehicle that spends hours washing and waxing it but never drives it. If he drives it, it could get dirty. That was McClellan's attitude towards his troops. If he used them, the would have to train new ones, he liked to show them off marching not fighting.
