Tiger and Phil's Golf Event

There's a time and a place for events like this.... and now is the perfect time.
I could even see doing a couple events like this a year in the offseason for some fun.
But it should NEVER replace the PGA Tour season. If you think that, I'm guessing you aren't a golfer or a golf fan, right?
I guess I wouldn't mind seeing the caddies being mic'ed up on the PGA Tour possibly, just to hear the back and forth between player and caddie.... and their strategies.... or what kind of shot they want to hit.... or how they read the greens, etc. That might be fun.
Peyton did something to Phil's clubs/cart that pissed him off. Wasn't sure what it was but it may of had something to do with the skirting covering his clubs.
Seemed at least partially real. It was right before Phil was joking about sending a low liner thru Peyton's tee box.
I am a golf nut, but if you think weekly CBS/NBC broadcasts are good, I don’t know what your watching. It’s nothing but commercials and FedEx Cup updates.
The tour could learn a lot from this. Putting microphones on player and caddies should have happened years ago. Announcers need to learn to shut up and let the product speak for itself. Phil’s breakdown on #2 was the best broadcast golf I’ve seen this year. Adding in new and interesting formats on great courses needs to happen too. I LOVED last weeks format at Seminole. As someone who believes carts should be outlawed, watching pros carrying their own bag was fantastic.
And most of all, dump the FedEx ******** where that is more important than the Masters or majors in the tour’s world.

I enjoyed that a lot, but I doubt players would ever agree to it in an easily offended society where you're one misstep from losing your sponsorships, etc.
Then run it through the TV producers. They don’t have to show conversations live if that’s the concern.
I would imagine the real challenge is getting the players to majority/unanimously agree to do it. It would be very entertaining and I would love to hear more of what they have to say, but if I were a pro golfer there is no way I would be in favor of it.
If this were basketball or football, the union would help push it along. I don't see golfers going along with it unless a serious carrot is dangled.
Isn't the carrot more sponsorship dollars? If you are an entertaining listen, you're going to get more air time. More air time means more sponsorships.
Agreed. That what happens when the tour is a member run organization where the inmates run the asylum.
Sorry, I have to disagree with almost all of this.
I find golf plenty interesting.... I love it. But I'm a total golf nut. I could get behind the caddies being mic'ed up, but having a little delay on it so they could mute out anything they need to, just like they did with the event yesterday. I think hearing the dialogue between player and caddy could be interesting to hear.
And I totally disagree about the FedEx thing. In the past, the big time players would hardly play any more tournaments after the final major was done. Now with the Fed Ex playoffs, worth 10 million I believe, they have a LOT left to play for after the last major of the year.
If it weren't for the FedEx playoffs, we would never see Tiger, Phil, Koepka, DJ, Fowler, Rory, etc, etc.... after the last major.
I would argue the tour has devalued its tournaments with the playoffs. Top guys are not going to play over 20 weeks a year. 4 majors, players, 3 playoff events, 4 WGC’s, and the rest of the “elevated status” events leaves nothing left for other tournaments. Last year’s John Deere Classic is the perfect example. It was the worst OWGR field since 2014.
And I really don’t give a **** about the money. Watching millionaires play for millions isn’t interesting. Making Rory and DJ win by a chip off with the wind blowing 20 mph in off the ocean is interesting.
I loved the carts yesterday. LOVED it. I know they probably went really fast because of the weather but the pace kept me tuned in a lot more than I normally would have been.
