I might have COVID-19

Best of luck and well wishes being sent your way.

I saw something a couple of days ago (maybe it was a thread here on CF) that the highest growth rate of cases in the country is now in Sioux City, IA, with Waterlo/Cedar Falls and Des Moines in the top 10.
Bars are open in both North and South Sioux City, plus large packing facilities. Figured it was coming.

i have allergies not covid

I woke up with a dry cough this morning and being the good hypochondriac that I am went into full sweating mode. Jumped in the shower and breathed deep and started producing a little phlegm. So I'm guessing this is my usual spring cold that I won't admit are allergies. :) The cough is pretty much all gone now. But I just mowed, so we'll see if it returns. Bad time for pollens to be high, it will have us all freaking out.

Good news is that we just built an interface to do MASS testing in Central Iowa. I'm not sure I'm at liberty to share the specifics yet, so I won't even if asked. But suffice it to say some smart people stepped up to the plate and have the ability to do 10s of 1,000s of tests per day. I'm guessing if this works as we expect, Central Iowa could do enough testing to take care of most of this country in a few days. Of course this would also assume that we could get tests on that type of scale.

Any Veterinarian who gives you a shot of Ivermectin won't be practicing much longer. Any medication requires forms to fill out.
So true. However oral ivermectin not prescription drug. Yes vet cannot recommend. What you find on your own....you are on your own

I used to not be bothered by allergies but about every time I go for a walk I get a small headache and runny nose, only one side.

I'd love to hear about testing going to work places but like any other information, can't rely on it.

I’m under the impression that bars are open in Nebraska and South Dakota is that not the case?
The only bars I know that are open in Omaha are doing take out orders of food or alcohol. No customers inside.

Restaurants will be opening sometime in May at 50% capacity. No groups larger than 6 and tables will need to be further apart (hence the 50% capacity) I believe servers and up front personnel will be required to wear masks.

6 being the magic number seems weird.

That's probably the maximum typical family size (2 parents, up to 4 kids). Prevents you from having step-aunt (twice removed) Karen's May Day party with the entire extended family at the local Olive Garden.

Texas is allowing restauratns to open up at 25% capacity next week. Be interesting to see how many actually open.

That sounds interesting. I assume that the system that has been developed is for analyzing the actual test samples, processing the results and reporting the results back. If the system has the capacity to test the population of the whole country in a few days that is nothing short of incredible. The only entities in Central Iowa that I can think of with that type of potential capability would be Facebook, Microsoft or Amazon in conjunction with the National Animal Disease Center (NADC) in Ames. Just free-form thinking there.

Just ran across this: "More recently, NADC's archive of historic swine influenza viruses combined with an established critical mass of influenza research expertise enabled NADC researchers to lead an effective national research response to the pandemic associated with the novel 2009 H1N1 influenza virus." **

Opening up to lose your ass also seems weird.

^^^^This.

25 or 50% occupancy is a real tough number for places to even come close to covering costs. Now, those that can also do a decent to-go order, like Pizza and Burger places, probably will do just fine.

In Nebraska starting next Monday, places can open to 50%, however, no bar seating, and anyone wanting booze has to also eat...no coming in just to drink.

Not what I’m hearing from Sioux City in-laws in regard to capacities. Hope you’re correct.

I thought I'd update everybody that I almost certainly do not have it. No symptoms so far, and my exposure was almost a week ago.
Dude that's not how this works. You almost certainly do have it and you're one of the 80% that doesn't show symptoms. If you go out of you house please wear a mask to prevent spreading it and continue to wash your hands a lot.
