That was an odd couple years. They had a poor record in the Big 8, worse than the year before.

Different times, and different coach.

Orr had his faults, some similar to this staff imo, but how you lose and the charisma you do it with matters. It shouldn’t, but it does. Also, he had a lot more challenges in keeping a nascent ISU program consistently above .500 imo.

But I don’t believe we’ve seen the best from Prohm. I really think he could be good enough if he were to change his staff .

Two Junior College players(Bayless and Eaton) were members of that class and were instrumental in the turnaround.

Are we the only fan base who has the "NEVER SAY ANYTHING BAD EVER BECAUSE THE RECRUITS WILL SEE IT AND GO PLAY FOR SOMEONE ELSE YOU ******* **** STICKS" people or is that a common thing in college sports? Either way it's stupid and I'm pretty sure it's either pushed by people over 45 who don't understand what's out on social media or just dweebs who can't handle people not being happy with something they like.

If Bayless Jr were close to the player his dad was, he’d be a hidden gem. I’ve got a soft spot for legacy guys, because I’m old and it brings back good memories.

The odd thing is then”turnaround” wasn’t that in conference play.

Iowa State fans support basketball in a Top 15 way in all of college basketball. When we suck, fans still show up. That matters a lot more than some abstract "RECRUITS LOOK AT SOCIAL MEDIA" comment.

Serious question: Are we supposed to pretend everything is good with the basketball program right now?[/QUOTE
.

Not in my mind, but why does every thread have to be a negative fest. I am not directing this at you, but at the overall tone on all these threads. I get it, I am not happy either with state of the program. But man my CF visits are going down because I am tired of reading all the crap while I try to get an update on recruiting

Because we went 12-20 and have missed on every single spring target we've had so far. Did you think you were going to find people excited for the future of the program after that?

Prohm’s stubbornness when it comes to his staff makes it very hard for me to feel sorry for him. He’s stunk at spring recruiting since he’s been here, maybe change things up a little bit.

I don't feel sorry for a multi-millionaires, but I agree that Steve has a lack of awareness regarding the need for new blood (talent) on his staff. I really thought Hobbs would retire after this last season.

We have a pretty active online fan base and a very visible, active fan forum (and not every fan base has something like this) compared to a lot of other schools.

Iowa State negativity has a pretty large billboard compared to our peers.

Maybe don’t go 12-20 and we won’t be negative?

And every power 5 team has a site like this

I can’t wait until the one time transfer rule kicks in, and we don’t even have enough players to field a team next year. But maybe Prohm will get lucky and there won’t be a season anyways.

Then he would probably get an extension.

If we're winning our fanbase is a tremendous asset. When we're losing, you see the negative side of passion. People can ***** about it all they want but the alternative is Oklahoma State's fanbase.

OSU recruiting class is pretty good.. Fanbase when it comes to recruiting is just a tad overrated imho. Most guys just want to be able to get along with teamates, win, and get along with the staff.

We did not win last year, and the staff may only be spared the axe by no basketball season. Pretty hard to win recruiting battles in that atmosphere.

How many Iowa State games have these kids been to, and seen this top 15 crowd (whatever that means)?

they damn sure get to read all the comments on here though.

and who said everything is fine with the program? This was a bad year. It was no fun at all.

prohm is coaching for his job next year.

but if you don’t see the difference between saying there are problems with the basketball program, and it’s 4:33 and Steve prohm still sucks, then you either aren’t aware enough to understand what that represents, or don’t have a problem with it.

I don’t think our fanbase is more or less rabid than any other. We love our team, but I think we get irrational at times. I hate the down years and I used to get really upset when ISU lost, but I’ve come to be realistic as a fan and enjoy the good years every so often. History has not been on our side.

For example, we have 19 NCAA tournament wins in our 113 year basketball history. Here are the coaches in the Big 12 and their NCAA win total:

Bill Self, 46 wins in 27 years
Lon Kruger, 21 wins in 34 years
Bruce Weber, 15 wins in 22 years. (Yuck)
Scott Drew, 10 wins in 18 years
Chris Beard, 9 wins in 5 years

ISU is not a top half team in our conference year in and year out and maybe that’s why the 2000 season or the Big 12 titles are so much fun and memorable. Same goes for football—-a case could be made that we are one of the 5 worst Power 5 teams. Our school record for wins is 9 and we haven’t won a conference title since 1912, but beating Oklahoma or keeping Oklahoma State out of the national championship are some of my favorite memories as a fan. Gotta love the underdog!
