Schools in Pottawattamie county are closing after tomorrow. They don't have spring break next week.

I bet by the end of next week we'll see schools close or parents deciding to just not send their kids if already working from home.

Shout out to technology in this case that allows at least a good amount of people to work from home.

My hope is the services like water utility, etc. are able to stay up and running...you'd think the jobs that don't deal much with the public would be safer.

So, does that mean no school tomorrow, or no school after her press conference?

It’s a suggestion, not a mandate. Though I would imagine all school districts will follow.

Do they make up days if an entire area is destroyed by a natural disaster or something and school isn't even an option?

I think schools can get a waiver in extreme circumstances. I think it might be a good idea for that to apply here.

Especially for high schoolers, who are more likely to have summer jobs and such.

The school that I am current in SC Iowa was hit by a tornado 3 years ago, I was not teaching there at the time. The school was forced to move into a care center after 3 weeks, about 10 days of that time was forgiven, but the school did have to add a week on the end of the school year to make up for missed days.

The school celebrated the 3 year anniversary of the tornado last week.
