Thad Matta - ISU Head Coach next year

Is Gene Keady available?

I saw him and Bobby Knight bro'ing it up at last weekend's IU game in Bloomington, and then again at the Pacer game that night. Perhaps Bobby and Gene could co-coach next year. Defense wouldn't be an issue.

As a side note, Bobby doesn't look too good health-wise, which is unfortunate

Oh I guess only @Halincandenza didnt. My bad.
He surely wasn't a shoe in first round pick and that's why a lot of people believed he was going to be back. He could've helped his stock tremendously by coming back, but I'm certainly not faulting him for leaving and making money. He also hadn't even 100% made up his mind until a week or two after the loss against Ohio State, which definitely didn't help in trying to bring in someone who could replace a talent like him. Lindell nor Lard had made up their minds completely either.

Scrambling to put teams together last minute is not a recipe for success and has hurt Prohm twice now. It can't keep happening or else he will end up getting fired in the next year or two.

Prohm is here for atleast another , probably 2 more years. Might as well hold off discussing specific coaches until about Feb of 2022.

Agreed. Might as well stop the Prohm hating for a while. Just the practicality of his buyout, Jamie Pollard's demonstrated history of giving a long leash to his hires (see McDermott) and Prohm's past suggests he's at least got one more year, probably 2 as you say.

I think only if Prohm gets a contract extension in the offseason should we all be bothered and start making noise again.

it could be argued that prohm hasn’t sucked for 5 years straight.

He definitely hasn't sucked but it could be argued he's underachieved the last 4 years. His first year could have been better but they had a pretty good regular season and the big 12 was a good as its ever been that year. I think they finished tied for 3rd with OU, who went to the final 4. Nothing wrong with the Sweet 16 obviously but in that game, Bennett coached cirlces around him, he never adjusted to Brogdan guarding Monte instead of Georges as he (and everyone but Bennett) had talked about the week leading up to the game, that completely shut our offense down. Even with that said, one of the better seasons we've had at ISU. Painter did the same in his second season, it took Prohm a half to realize that Swanigan couldn't guard Burton, by then we were in too big a hole to crawl out of. Essentially even when he has a good regular season/conference tourney, he gets outcoached when it mattered in March.

I'm not happy about it but we're kind of stuck with him for a couple of reasons. At this point, all I'm looking for from the rest of the year is for the players who will be returning to show promise. I don't hate Prohm, I want him to succeed, I just don't have confidence he will.

We were up two with just under 3 minutes left and Purdue made a three that hit every inch of the rim before falling through. We fell just short to the Big 10 Champs that game. I don't think Prohm got out-coached in that entire game, rather he made adjustments and his team had a phenomenal comeback but couldn't quite get it done.

16-17 was the best coaching job of his career. That team was playing as well as anyone in the country.
