*** Official IOWA STATE Vs #2 Baylor Game(Day) Thread ***

1. Yes, that's like saying Fran gets credit for Jordan Bohannon being a good free throw shooter when he's been good at it his whole life.

2. I think you're forgetting a certain player who broke his foot a certain year. Also, Larry Brown would've gotten fired from the Bulls with that front office and roster, so quit using your love for Prohm as a measure for hate against Fred.
I guess I don't give Shayok enough credit for running his own plays and always creating his own open shots every game, then. Prohm was just there to look good and suck chapstick.

I don't love or hate either of them. They're coaches. One is still here, and the other is a relic of a different time. I'm just bored with people watching these games hoping we fail, just to come ***** about Prohm. For that, don't watch. I'm not ******** enough to think firing him right now is a good idea, so I'm at least waiting until the season is over to pass judgement.

Steve Kerr looks brilliant this year too.
(Yes I know theres injuries but it shows much the players have to do with winning in the NBA)
Steve Kerr won 3 NBA championships as a coach. I think Fran McCaffery could've done the same with those teams.

That's how we ended up keeping Paul Rhoads for so long.

Who do you wish was at ISU in 2014 or 2015 so CMC wouldn't be there now?

Do you know of any coaches who get a team to an NCAA tournament, then get fired after the next season?

Teddy Allen gonna get buckets for the huskers next year.
Is this Cheatham's senior year? If not, he will be alright again as well.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Fred win a tournament game there in a few years...if he doesn't go back to the NBA first.

The thing that was glaring to me tonight is we don’t have any reliable scoring threats. Said it earlier in the year but you need a couple dudes that can go get you a bucket in high level games. Hali is a distributor and Ra is on the smallish side to consistently rim dive. The rest of the roster is support/low level fringe P5 level at this point. Most guys on Baylor and Kansas can go get you a bucket. I think Jackson can become a high level P5 scorer but beyond those three...not much. It’s probably a feather in Prohm’s cap that prior to tonight’s game we were leading the conference in PPG

If you're trying to put me in the group of people hoping we lose every game, you're wrong. I love my Alma Mater and have been a passionate Cyclone fan my entire life. I'm currently looking at my personalized signed basketball from Johnny Orr as I type this. My problem is that I'm starting to lose interest in this program, like I did under McDermott where I would find out if we won or not by checking the paper the next morning. I don't want it to get to that point. That's why I'm genuinely concerned about the direction Prohm is taking this program, because we have not gotten any better since he took over. We plateaued for 2 years with Fred's players, then took a nose dive in year 3 (which should've been prevented. He knew who we were losing that year, they were seniors). Year 4 we got better and showed hope for rebuild, but then now it's looking worse than it did two years ago. I'm not calling for him to be Lane Kiffined when they land back at the Ames airport tonight, I don't think any rational fan is thinking that he should. So yes, I do agree that we need to evaluate after the season and go from there, but I'm not positive at all about the programs future with him in charge.

I've been hoping that Bolton establishes himself as that "easy bucket" role with his drives. He's been playing well offensively the last few games, just not totally consistent yet.

Off the top of my head, Tubby Smith was fired at Minnesota the year they made the tournament and the round of 32. Travis Ford also was fired at Oklahoma State after making the tourney 3 years in a row and missing it the last year.

You seem unflinching to use your love of Fred as a measure for hate against Prohm, no?
I don't hate Prohm. He's been good to me on a personal level. Guy bought me lunch one day to discuss ideas to enhance the atmosphere inside Hilton and get to know what we did. It's possible to like someone but not think they're the right person for the job. I still like Paul Rhoads, but clearly he was not right for the job here.

Frankly, I don't want Prohm fired unless we're opening the books for a big, known hire poached from somewhere else. If we're taking on his massive buyout just to hire another mid-major coach for pennies, we're just praying for another miracle.

I don't see us opening the books right now, and in that case, I think of rather have the continuity for one more season (and more hiring money later) instead of setting up to do it all again in 4 years or so by going cheap. Another obvious problem with ISU's program is we haven't kept a coach since Orr, for various reasons. Hard to build a program this way.
