The biggest issue with the way we've played up until now is our beginning stretch of Big 12 games. Look at our next 10 games:

at TCU
Kansas
Oklahoma
at Baylor
at TTU
Oklahoma State
at Auburn
Baylor
at Texas
at WVU

We may be a favorite in, what, two of those games (home vs. Oklahoma and Okie State)? I'm just worried that the wheels could fall off this thing quickly.

At least if that happens, we are able to pull the plug and let go of any hope for the season.

And if they do, all the more reason and evidence to make a move after. Until then, you have to let it ride and see what happens. There is no better solution right now.

Nice "I told you so" CJ going on in here right now.

Why are people so angry when they are pissed off...?

Do we live such sanitized, safe, anodyne lives nowadays that our caveman bloodlust needs college sports to get the "burn the witch!" feelings out of us?

You all are acting like Prohm took your wife to church.
No, they’re acting like fans. You know this behavior well yourself.

They are currently only favored in 2 of those games according to kenpom. OU and OSU at home, which based off how they play in Hilton seems... dubious.

2-8 start is the most likely outcome currently.

If I have ever went into full hatred mode like that, I would like to know about it. The FAMU game sucked, Prohm is not doing a good job right now, and these players are not very good, but come on, at some level this is basketball, not nuclear war.

The tournament seems unlikely, and we’re more than capable of getting blown out in a few, but I’d guess the start will be better than 2-8. The Big 12 is down this year.

Come on, take your own advice for once and stop being so melodramatic and divisive. This is a college basketball forum on a message board, so the reactions and commentary are rather appropriate for a history making bad loss.

People can do what they want on here. I'm not a mod. I can't ban you.

Just saying -- lots of you seem happy we (and more specifically Prohm) suck right now.

Agree, which is why an extension because he feared Prohm would leave for Ala ******* Bama is inexcusable.

JP is GREAT, but that was a terrible decision.

Is the buyout really 6Mil??? That's horrible. I guess we continue the downward spiral for 2 years

You have a lot of great things to say and you're one of my favorite posters, particularly for digging in to the nitty gritty with advanced stats. But this is not a good post. People don't go to CycloneFanatic hoping that their team fails. Think you're projecting here

Oh FFS, you seriously want to watch your favorite team finish last in their conference, get blown out by their arch rival, and lose to MEAC teams? Guess they should just start handing out participation trophies in college right? Like it or not, its all about winning.

You're staring down the rabbit hole of "why should anyone even care about sports to begin with".

Barttorvick has us a slight underdog at home against Oklahoma State, so we will only be favored in 1 of those 10 games.

Is this Cat?

Or they’re posting the “hate” you alluded to because they’re unhappy we “suck” right now and with the stewardship of the program. Which is the more typical motive for hateful acts?

Better odds macloney is.

Either way, these guys need to step their game up. Cat defended Prohm more than these guys have combined.

Your point that my wording might be too strong is well-taken.

Let me try to rephrase it --

I do not think any of the ISU posters on here want the program to fail.

There are some people who are in "I told you so" mode right now, though.

Vindication about something one was heavily-criticized for can be an enjoyable feeling, even if you were ultimately right about something you find unpleasant.

I've seen this posted several times. You understand the part of the reason the Big 12 is down because ISU is bringing it down right?

I see 2-8 as the best case scenario right now. I did put a little on ISU under 8.5 conference wins. Feels like easy money.

You're staring down the rabbit hole of "why should anyone even care about sports to begin with".

I was born in Ames and grew up in Boone.

I have been watching Iowa State (mostly lose, especially in football though less so in basketball from time to time) since as long as I can remember.

I spent literally thousands of hours in Iowa State's athletic bands during my 5.5 years on campus, including during graduate school when I should have known better, with very little compensation for the time and effort doing it other than a few cold pizzas, some travel to road games and postseason tournaments (stuffed into an overcrowded bus along the way), and what amounted to nice seats at games.

Why did I do it? Because it was fun, and I was there to support our teams. I was there to live and die with them, and I did then and sometimes do now. I have actually worn the uniform of Iowa State University, which not many here have.

I have paid into being a Cyclone fan about as much as one can.

My tenure in Ames equaled the last two years of the decline and fall of the McCarney era, two years of the Gene Chizik experience, and one breakthrough with Rhoads ending in Tempe before a disappointing follow-up the next year. For basketball, I got to see the inglorious end of the Morgan era, four years of McDermott -- each worse than anything we have seen from Prohm, and then one semester of Hoiball.

At least the women's team and volleyball team were good while I was there.

I saw about as much ****** football and basketball as one can see and at direct cost to me (e.g., no bowl or NCAA tournament trips for free when I was in college).

Despite that, some of the righteousness about Prohm's struggles right now is wearing on me. I do not like to lose either, despite having seen plenty of it, but there are really no good ways out of this situation. I have seen about as much bad as one can and have stuck with these teams and this fan base, but the negativity -- even about genuine accomplishments, like winning the Big 12 tournament last year -- is getting old.

Campbell is the best coach we have ever had with maybe the exception of Earle Bruce, and other teams are poaching his staff. Despite that, there are several threads on here calling for their jobs and/or that Campbell has peaked. Prohm is getting drawn and quartered on here right now. I was on the sidelines for the Chizik experience and courtside for McDermott. Trust me, as bad as ND and FAMU were in the past week, imagine having that weekly for football and twice a week for basketball for years on end. It can be way worse, and it just might be. Either Prohm will suck the next 1.5 or 2.5 years and get fired and we will try to rebuild or he will right the ship and life is going to go on either way.

I will be here either way. I just do not find it that fun to whine about everything. I like the pageantry, tradition, and passion of college sports (which is completing missing watching millionaires play for billionaires in the professional leagues), staying connected to the central Iowa community through this site, and analyzing the strategic and statistical aspects of the game. My posting history would reflect these as my priorities.

Way too many on here have "this sucks" as their obvious priority.

First of all, I have no issues with Matt Campbell, I think he's a great coach and are lucky to have him.

Second, nobody is whining about anything, they are just letting it be known losing to Florida A&M, in Ames of all things, is completely unacceptable.

That post was not specifically addressed to (only) you.

Thank you for supporting Coach Campbell. I think you are intelligent enough to see that he is going through the wringer in some circles of the fan base, however.

Regarding Prohm and FAMU, I agree with you. It really sucks. It was a debacle. We should have won that game down three starters, not just one. There is an obvious case to make it was the worst loss in school history, or at least since the Orr era, and Hampton and UAB were way better teams than that trash Rattler team that just took us down.

But do not kid me that the whining started with and only over FAMU. There has been a chorus of "Prohm sucks" on here for years, even about a modestly successful season like the past one, that just feels super vindicated at the moment.
