I think Prohm took Hoiberg's identity of run & gun / 3pt mindset as to not completely change the dynamic of those players that played in Fred's system. I think Prohm is starting to construct his own identity as a coach where he wants his teams to be more focused on defense. I also think Prohm wants to be very long and play passing lanes, then push the ball and get to the rim. The reason I say that is the players Prohm has got in next year's class, as well as some of the guys he recruited in the past (Halliburton, THT, Griffin, Leech), fit that mold of a long athletic guy.

Key word being 'think'. It's year 5 and I'm not sure anyone really 'knows'.

Side note iirc his first two teams actually weren't all that run and gun types, and seemed to be more of a half court type compared to prior which really seemed to diminish a guy like McKay aside from his other stuff.

For the record, I'm not in the 'get rid of Prohm crowd' nor am I in the 'Fred would be just killing it' crowd. But if there's many episodes of the team looking completely unprepared from a schematic point, it can't be 'well, the players just don't buy in and he's a young coach who just needs time' as a rationale if they don't know what they're even buying into.

The first year with McKay we were pretty fast, not peak Hoiball fast, but #49 in AdjT. The second year was “slower”.

I will guarantee you Prohm knew this would happen, too. Which speaks volumes for his ability to ignore it and succeed, anyway.

And yes, I'm counting his years here as a success. Just my opinion......

I don't think he did know how bad it would be. He's said before that he didn't realize how hard it would be to win over our fans. He knew he was replacing a good coach, but I don't think he knew how annoying we were about it.

Incredibly solid on the road? He's 12-24 on the road in the Big 12 so far, lost both road games to Iowa, 1-2 on the road in the SEC challenge? 12 games under .500 is incredibly solid?

I think you have mistaken winning in Lawrence, then Manhattan and Lubbock last year to being "incredibly solid" on the road. Facts say this is a ridiculous statement.

Fred's conference road record.............13-23. And that is not counting the first "transition" season. You do that, it comes in at a sparkling 13-31. Also beating a top 10 TTU at TTU is more difficult than losing multiple times in Lubbock with some of his "great" teams when TTU was a doormat. Did Fred ever win in Lawrence.........I forget?

Right, so about the same on the road and better at home. That’s the point you missed.

No, I know exactly the point....and thank you for making mine. It's been reduced to this. Get rid of Prohm because of Hilton? It's okay if you trip at home if you get it back on the road. Oh, I know...you can never win a conference title if you do that. Well, better tell Fred, Greg, Wayne, Tim, Johnny......every coach at ISU since the beginning of time outside of LE.......two decades ago. You and yours better hope he keeps losing at Hilton every so often or you will be fresh out of excuses won't you?

When did I ever say Fred's teams were good on the road? I'll be the first to admit they were terrible most of the time. I really dont know what this has to do with discussing Prohm's road record, they are both horrible on the road.

If you want to compare coaches, IMHO the simplest way to sum up seasons is with seeding:
Big 12
Hoiberg: 12, 3, 5, 4, 2
Prohm: 6, 4, 10, 5

NCAA
Hoiberg: x, 8, 10, 3, 3
Prohm: 4, 5, X, 6

So far, like you said, pretty darn similar, though I think it's fair to give Hoiberg a pass on year 1 given what he walked into. If we miss the tournament this year they'll be an awful lot of pressure for next year- missing 3 out of 4 years will not look good.

The lack of context is hilarious. The two tenures have been anything but “pretty darn similar,” and it’s so obvious.

Let me know when Prohm brings in two all-time greats without Fred’s help. Spin baby!
By "all time greats" are we talking conference titles......wins in the conference tourney.....wins in Lawrence.....beating Iowa.....fan favorites.....going to the NBA? Because most that Fred brought in were here for four years. More time on the job makes it a little easier to rack up "all time great" points. I am sorry Lindell, THT left early......for the NBA.....and Shayok only had one year. There is still Tyrese, George, Bolton players like Foster coming in next year. You act like Fred's recruits play in a vacuum and the last two years under Prohm meant nothing. That they were going to be NBA stars regardless. If that's the case......they would have left early. They didn't.....we are all glad they didn't. You and yours are really reaching trying to diminish Prohm on stuff like this. Let's just all agree right now....he needs to get things buttoned up at Hilton. Other than that.....you are arguing just to argue.

On paper, Hoiberg missed NCAA 1 year and had average seed of 6. So far, Prohm missed 1 year and an average seed of 5. So yeah, so far pretty darn similar. After this year things will start to look different. And trends don’t look positive right now.
