This is why Prohm must go........

Oh yes sorry, three wins were “gifted.” I mistakenly counted ‘98.

Point stands though that during those early Ferentz years ISU had a distinct talent advantage. I’d include 2001 in that advantage.
With all due respect........we have never, EVER had a "distinct" talent advantage over Iowa. Maybe a player here, there i.e. Seneca......but never an overall "distinct" advantage.

Right, 1-1 at home with a blowout loss and a win against a weakened top-30 team isn’t unexpected.

This also exemplifies why some aren’t high on Prohm. They’re not surprised by this week, and that’s an issue in itself.

Expected or not, Hopefully this is an abbreviation in play. Missing the tournament would be a bad trend imo.

I was asking the question to the large portion of the posters that expected us to lose to go 0-2 this week

This wasn't just a loss. It was an ass kicking. Getting out coached is becoming a pattern. Doesn't matter what kind of recruits you get. . .at some point you actually have to win. At some point you have to make in game adjustments before your pre-determined time has elapsed. At some point you have to draw up some plays to take advantage of what you see the other team doing during the game.

There is a couple of things that are hurting Prohm:
-lack of identity on both ends of the court
-players take after their coach and I think you have seen it over the years
-he has recruited maybe too good(Wington, THT & Haliburton) The youth is leaving for the next level and not sticking around for 3-4 years

I think he is the right coach but needs to maybe look at shaking up his coaches.

It was a horrible effort, but luckily, we got 21 regular season games to go. Let’s hope we look back and laugh.

It’s the best we can hope for because it would take 3+ years of missing the tournament for any sort of consideration of coaching change.

Is there anyone that wouldn't have signed up for a split this week facing the #16 team in the country and then a team's Super Bowl? Honest question and I'm fine if the answer is no because we should never expect to lose at Hilton but I just know there were a lot of people predicting 0-2

I was expecting 2-0 because going 8-5 in the non-con means 10-8 in the conf is going to be necessary to even be on the bubble. And as we discussed in the pre-season with Bolton getting his waiver this team should be a #6-#8 seed.
Setting that aside the manner in which we lost is disturbing. The double-digit losses in Hilton have now become an occurrence we get to see a couple times every year. That is simply unacceptable.

I thought I’d cool down overnight before posting in this thread. My thoughts and frustrations haven’t changed and are probably more negative this morning.

I understand we aren’t a good shooting team, and lack talent overall, but our lack of offensive identity for long stretches is really concerning. We stand around the perimeter, dribble/slowly pass the ball back and forth, being a lazy ball screen up and run a sloppy pick and roll with less than 10 seconds on the shot clock, forcing bad shot. The few times we actually moved the ball quickly and had cutters moving off the ball the offense actually looked good and we got good looks. Rebounding and defense were soft and lazy, which is completely embarrassing and unacceptable. In the hay days of having a top 20 offense we could get away with that and outscore people - the offense isn’t capable of that this year so the mindset on rebounding and defense has to change to compensate for that.

The lack of identity, lack of in-game changes, lack of (a few) set plays to get something going, poor defensive fundamentals, poor rebounding fundamentals and awkward substitution patterns/line ups has me questioning Prohm’s ability.

Getting beat by Iowa is one thing...getting smoked by an average Iowa team and getting housed like that in Hilton not being new is another.

Also add in that it's year 5 and there's not really much of an identity to the program.

I'd be surprised if ISU doesn't lose multiple games in Hilton like this this season.

Yup! Says it all. Does a team that plays like that at home against a rival seem to be bought into the coaching? "Every organization takes on the personality of it's leader" IE404 required class. I have found that to be so true over the years. The team you see playing is a direct reflection of it's leader. Not liking what I've been seeing over the years. We shall see-but I personally getting tired of the post game "aw shucks" "good ol boy" demeanor and "it's on me". He needs to man up-show some emotion and show that he cares and get this thing going instead of going through the motions. Maybe he thinks he's arrived and can coast?

We didn't have remotely close to 15-3 talent last year. That would've made them what...the best team in the history of Iowa State? Yeah, no. Players with high ceilings? Yes. How many coaches take rosters of underclassmen playing a bunch of minutes and magically they're awesome? 2? K and Cal? And those players generally are lottery picks? Yep, definitely comparable.
Maybe 14-4. Fran and other basketball experts said we were the most talented team in the Big 12 last year and it definitely looked true at times. Unfortunately there was no sort of consistency.

I thought you weren’t going to post about basketball any more? I thought you accepted the team was going to suck this year.

you are the worst.

I'll keep the posts to a minimum this year so I dont upset your delicate feelings, but this entire coaching staff and players deserve to be called out for what happened last night.

If he misses the tournament the next two years and gets canned, here’s Fred’s buyout schedule:

  • Year 1: $11.5 million
  • Year 2: $10.25 million
  • Year 3: $8.75 million
  • Year 4: $7 million
  • Year 5: $5.25 million
Fred is never coming back.
