I don't know the exact timeline of how everything went, but Toledo played Western Michigan on Friday, ISU played at WVU on Saturday, after the WVU game it was pretty much known Campbell to ISU. The MAC championship has nothing to do with any of this as it was the weekend after
Didn't the winner of the western Michigan vs Toledo game go to the MAC championship and if Toledo would have won the announcement would have been delayed for a week.

That's crazy. He's one of the best in the country. Could this be related to another job?

More insight into the resignation. Great article!

In many ways, Petersen was an accidental coach. The son of a high-school and small-college coach in Northern California, he didn’t get into the profession because he had a burning desire to do so. He got into it because his playing career fizzled and it turned out he was good at it.
""He was the typical coach’s kid who gets exposed to all those things, so it was second nature to him,” Ron Petersen (his Dad) said. “(But) he didn’t want to have 18- to 22-year-olds determining his happiness. So he said he was not going to coach." (when Chris was hired at Washington)

Petersen always tried to coach in a more humane manner than those in the profession who famously slept in the office and ignored all other aspects of their lives. His outlook was honed by his young son’s battle with pediatric cancer, which imbued him with a strong sense of perspective that there was more to life than wins and losses.

PSA:

There was a meeting tonight. In summary it was Campbell, staff and the team. Campbell told the team he is staying and that he wants to continuing building at ISU. He will be recruiting players that fit the culture and will continue to build here at ISU, not interviewing anywhere else. He doesn’t like all the distractions these rumors have been causing.
Hok fans are behind all of this nonsense. They understand that their dominance in this state will soon be at an end.

See all of you on Beale Street at the end of the month!

Hok fans have zero interest in seeing Campbell stick around at ISU. Funny, there is zero interest in Ferentz anymore.
Makes sense to me that nobody comes after Ferentz any more - he is paid very well if not too much and he pretty much runs the the Iowa AD - who is going to give him more than that?

Interesting that Petersen mentioned recharging and not retiring. He's not going away, and will be mentioned for nearly every big job in the next 3-4 years.

I think David Shaw has the demeanor and smarts to be an NFL HC so if he were to leave in a couple years, Peterson would be a slam dunk there if he wants to get back into the game.

Agreed...the biggest thing with Ferentz will be to see if he can pull off the whole push your son into the HC role once he retires. I'm not sure he has the pull to do that...

Agree, Snyder couldn't and the stadium is named after him (and yes he was shown the door).

That will be interesting. I'm sure Kirk is a great grandpa and would love to spend time with his family. But, he's also on record saying he doesn't really like to take vacations anymore and has made his house, lawn, pool area comfortable.
So that makes me think he'd really stay around the area vs someone like Bob Stoops who moved to Chicago/Florida.

Kirk Ferentz has the greatest job in America. Why would he even want to go anywhere else? Doesn't have to win big, gets to give his kids high paying jobs, runs the AD. No fan base in America awards mediocrity more than Iowa, and so there is no stress when your schedule essentially hands you five wins every year. Dude has it made.

You might’ve forgotten who the hok AD is. Brain will be the next HC as long as GarBar is still around.

This has been bothering me but I still can’t figure out why Helton is even remotely on the hot seat. I know it’s USC and they have unrealistic expectations but they are one game out of the conference championship and haven’t been a national power in over 10 years. He has .730 winning percentage there. Even for the nut job schools that is decent.

Connor McCaffery to succeed Fran.
