Football Season Postmortem

May be best for bowl game purposes, I think we might have a better chance to win a matchup of 7-5 teams than to go against Notre Dame or someone similar.

7 wins seems like a bit disappointing, considering all the hype going into the season. Really good returning quarterback, highly experienced offensive line filled with seniors, and one of the best defenses in Iowa State history.

People VASTLY overrated the senior o line.

There's a reason Montgomery was a tackle breaking machine. He had to break multiple just to get to the line of scrimmage.

I was actually really surprised that people had that high of hope for this season. I figured it would be a transition year while we break in some new running backs and o line. I'm actually really disappointed we didn't see more of the younger players getting reps on the line.

I'll admit I hadn't paid much attention to this forum or other media outlets before the season started. Did some media put those thoughts on people's heads?

7 wins is fine but beating one team with a winning record is the reality of where this team is.

They got their ass kicked tonight.

The unfortunate truth is if you replace Purdy with even an above average QB our record is probably 5-7 or even 4-8 right now. Maybe worse.

With that said, Out of all the losses this season this was the first time they had no real chance to win.

Do you think he’s had great play calling all season? If it wasn’t for our talent like Brock, Breece, Charlie and Deshaunte, we’d be viewing Manning’s play calling on par with Messinghams during his time at Iowa State
I don’t think he’s been perfect by any means. He gets way to cute and sometimes can’t get out of his own way. That said it was indisputably the best offense in school history.

People have no idea what a good offense looks like. We had a good offense. Yes there is absolutely room for improvement. That improvement is going to come with players having more experience and a hopefully more talented line. My understanding is the underclass men are better but have been held back by inexperience.

I’m optimistic that we will be even better next year.

Phil Steele looked at all the returning starts and hyped them for a Big XII dark horse because of that. This line had moments, but they were way too inconsistent. False starts all year at the worst possible moments. Offense was good this year but couldn't get out of its own way too many times.

Can't join the Manning bash fest. He isn't the reason the team under achieved. It was a collective effort. Too many weak spots. Hopefully player development fills in those gaps next season. It's good to have an established quarterback, running back, tight ends and decent d linemen and linebackers coming back. Kyle the corner has been one of the most enjoyable players to watch. Hopefully there's more of his type in the two deeps across the entire roster.

I found the season to be disappointing with all the hubbub surrounding it. Sometimes it seemed that the players were disinterested or not ready for half the game. Just not much fun to watch- there were some great moments, but overall Way too much bad football. Lack of attention to details, fundamentals, poor play calling, not ready to play, etc.
