It isn't, if you've ever tried to get or extend an alcohol license for an event with an outdoor service area.
Iowa is a state where a vendor can be held liable for injuries if they serve someone who injures another party. Not all states are that way. Dram shop insurance for an area like that without controlled entrances would be crazy expensive I imagine, and you can't pass the cost on to the customer because they will still just bring in their own anyway. And once you have the license, the stuff that they carry in on their person or in their bladder becomes your liability as well.
I could be wrong, I'm sure someone can tell me if I am, I'm just citing my experience with a couple of outdoor events I've been involved with. You need to sell a lot of alcohol to make the dram shop insurance worthwhile, and then you pray nothing happens when everyone drives home. I understand why JP wouldn't want to touch it with a ten foot pole outside of areas like Johnny's or the End Zone Club where you are controlling who is going in/out.
Now it is entirely possible Pollard and Light will just lease spaces to individual entities who apply for their own alcohol permits which might get them off the hook to a great degree. But then those bars and restaurants will have the same responsibility and issues.
Question for those on P5 conferences and the Big 12: What kind of role would this development play should the Big 12 for P5 or NCAA football conferences change? Would this additional development secure our school in the ranks of top athletic conferences or associations?
From what I’ve heard, the land has already been purchased in Waukee. Who knows if it’s true, but it’s from a well connected source in Des Moines.
Yes. Hotels are full for every college football game, freshman move in, move out/Graduation and all of this demand is exponentially growing as enrollment also increases. JP has also said that Ames and ISU has missed out on huge conventions due to lack of hotels and convention space. This multi development district satisfies both needs.

Who said liability isn’t a big deal? It’s just not as big of factor as you make it.
The university is hosting essentially a 60k booze fest. It’s already under tremendous liability. The incremental liability from selling more alcohol than they already do isn’t the same as your little get together.
When discussing the Barta accusation just today, JP mentioned he had hundreds of cameras he could check to verify what happened. What do think they are there for?

JP's already done the homework on beer sales I'm sure. It doesn't matter what we want. He knows already that ISU fans are cool with BYOB and isn't going to institute a policy if he thinks it would negatively impact the gameday experience for them and create him a bunch of headaches.
Until he changes his mind or Iowa changes it's regs, me and the Captain set sail from lot G4 and JP doesn't have to concern himself with whether I've over served myself.

There are cameras everywhere. It has nothing to do with alcohol sales. And yes, there’s already tremendous liability. Adding more alcohol sales won’t incrementally change that, but it would erode product differentiation. That’s the true cost concern.
This is now the second time you've claimed the example I've used was propagating a smear, I'm just going to be generous and assume reading comprehension isn't your thing.
There is a huge difference between people drinking their own beer and the university selling it to them. Huge liability to take on from the U.
How much are students and/or local residents going to pay for all of this development?
Every penny they've got, cash in all investments, sell off all assets....EVERYTHING!
