Not what im saying. I am saying the lines are not put where they should be so the public (which takes the favorite most of the time) wins more games

Ha OK. So Vegas doesn't know the teams, leaving favorites as a better bet in early weeks, which is what the public bets. How many favorites covered week 1?

With any luck we will be there by Tuesday.

General question, and sorry if it was covered earlier. Do your winnings get taxed right away, or do you have to report all of it at the end of the year?

You can claim your losses on your taxes...not sure if anyone knows that

In general, casinos do not withhold taxes on winnings. In other words, if you win $1000, the casino pays you $1000 when you turn in your slip (or, online I suppose it just gets deposited in your account). I think there are limited situations where they may withhold, but they are pretty unlikely and fact-specific situations. It's essentially up to you to pay the tax to the IRS and Dept. of Rev. (if you're in Iowa).

I didn't really see this in a thread so thought I'd post. Mods if it needs moved to another location please do so.

I'm not really Nostradamus, but...I did nail Iowa and Iowa State this weekend.

2-0

Northern Iowa + 23 (No way in any universe is ISU going to beat UNI by that much...ever. I've seen way too many of these games. I should have bet the house on this. That being said I didn't see it THAT close)

Iowa -22.5 (Kept the game interesting)

That's a good call on UNI and Iowa! I wish I would have seen the line you saw on UNI. I thought I saw it mentioned somewhere several days before the game at -16 and I thought - there's no way I'm touching that. If it would have been -23, I would have taken UNI as well. Oh well. I haven't bet yet in Iowa, but at some point I'll probably play a little bit for fun.

I threw 2 different bets out on UFC 241 when I went to sign up for the app and got the actual tickets since my profile wasn't active yet. I bet $10 on a +120 ML bet and cashed in for $22 and then I bet $20 on a 3 fight parlay and cashed in for $208.10. I didn't touch any of the college games this past weekend but did throw $20 on a 49ers/Lions ML parlay that would payout $65.45. I'm enjoying myself so far!

Gotcha. I wonder what sort of compliance level will be maintained. Since you have to register, and the casino can track your winnings / losses, I'm guessing they will be reporting that information to the IRS as well.

I saw stat from a national talking head who likes sports gambling that, ~90% of the UNI/I-State bets at William Hill were on the Cyclones minus the points.

Sounds like someone is jealous they cant legally bet because they don't live in Iowa

Or...people are on CF embellishing their betting experience a little. Not that something like that would ever happen here. Cause everyone pays cash for their $500,000 home on here.

Has a workaround been established for people outside the state to invest?

If you are smart about it and just bet games you are very confident in you will do just fine. Last night i was very confident in the under and GB. I took under for game, under for the first half and green bay +3 for the game. At half I took GB second half line and under for the second half. Hit all 5. Where people get in trouble is betting every game just because its going on.

and on a side not. Yes I paid cash for my house. It is not 500k but 250k

You either went with your heart and you are a bears fan or you do not pay attention to NFL enough to know divisional games go under the total points over 65% of the time

Show us the statistics. This is patently false.

Ill look for them. It was said just yesterday on VSiN sports betting channel on satelite radio. It is the reason I went with so much on the unders last night

A lot of people are talking about how those teams didn't play their guys in the preseason. Probably hurt the offenses as well. I can't believe they didn't play Montgomery more in the preseason. I mean he is good but I would want him to get more comfortable in the NFL first.

I think it's an easy point to make but I'm not sure if it holds up. Chances are that another team who sat their offensive starters out in preseason will have no trouble putting points on the board on Sunday. And there are are always teams who play their starters in the preseason and then struggle offensively out of the gate anyway. I don't think preseason game reps have much to do with it either way. If anything I would guess that last night's result was due to:

both teams played well defensively
Green Bay has a new coach and new offense
Opponents have a year's worth of tape to study and break down Nagy's offense
Nagy called a terrible game offensively
