Hoiberg to Huskers

Izzo needs to retire. His little rant when he went off on his freshman player yesterday looked like he was desperate. Laughed when other players had to 'hold me back' in the huddle.
Dackich, of course, defended the Big10 coach's over the top actions as "Nothing...nothing".
I loved it. His team was playing like ass. He chewed out more than just that kid throughout the game, and they needed it.

I hate that I have to agree with Dan Dackich of all people, but that was nothing out of the norm in coaching

I don't see the issue. Ever watched Bill Fennelly on the sideline?

Depends on which norm you're talking about. MadFran-yes, Mark Few- never.
Fair. I was thinking about making that differentiation when typing that out, but my point stands. It was like the Bill Fennelly legal situation a few years back.. no the coach isn't making some personal threat at you or trying to cause harm to your being.. if he's reaching that level of anger it is because (most likely) you did something he has hammered home for months about not doing, or something along those lines. Izzo doesn't usually blow up like that, but when he does, it's for a reason. Bill self doesn't explode regularly, unless he thinks it is for the benefit of his team.

I got pulled into a equipment closet at an AAU tournament and our coach went around the circle and screamed at every one of us individually, full blast, about how ****** we just played. And we deserved it. I never once thought, wow **** this guy he shouldn't be a coach, I thought "I did something wrong, I need to change something because I do not want to get yelled at like that again".

If a coach who reaches this level of emotion stops yelling at you for doing things wrong, he has given up on you. But to your point, Steve Prohm would never reach that level of anger directed at a player, but that has never been his style.

There's a difference between yelling at a player and the 'hold me back' crap in the huddle. Not a good look.

So with Nebby's loss to TCU tonight will Miles be fired tomorrow and the Fred watch can really begin?

Disagree ... not one player including the one in his little rant are offended by his behavior. Yes, Izzo is a bit old school but I suspect you'd have a hard time finding any of his ex-players who'd have an issue him their head coach!

Winston was quoted as saying the "yelling wasn't working" and asked Izzo what he wanted communicated. The team leader had to take over because the coach was out of control.
The talking heads, LeBatard in this case this morning, are still talking about the rant a week later. Rece Davis, Bilas, Seth, Stan Van Gundy all agree that the "optics are bad", "not a good look" a "young coach would never get away with this".
Winston's comment that "the yelling wasn't working" is the most telling, however.
