Random Thoughts the 13th: Jason Takes RTT

Was thinking about this with the cave thread on the topic and now your post - I think places like that should institute a minimum usage as well. Often I think companies that have unlimited there can still be a pressure to not use much or some managers may be better than others. I was toying with that idea in my head today. Unlimited upper but say, 2-3 weeks lower minimum.

Yea I think Netflix is notorious for that. Like they have unlimited everything when it comes to PTO. The average use per year? 10 days

It's a great perk but you gotta use it. I know my company used to be like the government and you could stash as much vacation and once you got to a point, they paid you a portion and deducted hours of PTO. Now we have a limit of saved hours and if you go over (2x what you get in a year) you lose it "forever". They saw increase in both PTO usage and in the yearly survey the work life balance rating went way up after that first year. They are pretty serious about work life "flexibility".

Random Wednesday Night Observation: I eat a LOT of ******* salmon. Grilled salmon. Baked salmon. Smoked salmon. Raw salmon sushi. Brined lox salmon. I may have a salmon problem probably because it pairs so well with French Rhones.

Per capita annual consumption is supposedly like 3 lbs, hell I am pushing that since I got back from Mexico.

Don’t think I’ve eaten 3 lbs in my life.

Weather/news reports from DSM this morning are warning of the eventual closing of George Flagg Parkway and Fleur, among others. Of course this is happening now - I need to pick up DH at the airport after a flight due in just before 11 tonight. Crossing fingers that the flooding on Fleur holds off until after the airport trip at least.
After that I don't care. We're headed to KC early tomorrow and not traveling in the city proper.
So much fog here in town in Ames today. And yet, I had to flash lights at a couple of vehicles with NO LIGHTS ON! Good lord people, visibility is less than three blocks and you don't think about having your lights on???

Update: flight from Little Rock to Dallas was postponed once or twice. Fight from Dallas was postponed 2 or 3 times, but then the latest Little Rock postponement made it impossible to catch the Dallas flight. Decided to stay the night in Dallas and catch a 6 something flight to KC tomorrow morning. Until they cancelled that flight. Now looking at a slightly later flight into KC. I haven't been to the KC airport in years and have never driven there by myself. Dense fog advisory until mid-morning and it's already late because of that crappy DST. Can't wait. (Or words to that effect.)

The average American supposedly eats 46 slices of pizza year. I know I hit 46 slices consumed by mid-February this year.

No more/little water coming into the basement. Bought a smaller sump pump and its been going for awhile. Only question, as long as the water is at least running to it, it shouldnt burn up correct?

The bendy bus?

I do think it is pretty weird if you are in a middle section of the London tube watching the other sections move independently from yours.

There are probably 5 of them that run on the route that goes from the football stadium to MWL and around campus along with a few normal buses and it still isn't enough.

I'll tell you the same thing I told Doc - be safe!

We have a bomb cyclone here in Denver right now equivalent to a Cat 1 hurricane. This is nuts. Roads closed, trains questionable due to rolling power outages. Good thing I brought my sleeping bag to work today.

My BIL works at the Denver airport (photographer/media guy). He had to spend the night in his office, used photo tarps/backgrounds as a sleeping bag. Didn’t look too comfortable! I am surprised he wasn’t more prepared for the possibility.

Spring break trip in less than 48hrs. Flights are currently a mess (our flight comes in from Denver and has a 55% on time rating), one kid with a fever, and the weather is supposed to be 68-70 and rainy all week. But everything will work out just fine! :D (Trying to think positively)

Yesterday a gal I work with was having a fridge delivered to their home on gravel north of Ames. Delivery truck got stuck, called a tow truck. Tow truck got stuck. Called another tow truck. Didn’t hear what happened after that, but she didn’t come into work. Had a student also miss the afternoon class because their gravel road was impassable.

At least it seems winter is over. May be messy but it puts you in a better mood.

Have fun @Cybirdy have to hit rockn roller coaster and the yeti ride. Those are fun. Wife liked the tower of terror.

They give away trips to Vietnam quite a bit. Knowing enough guys who fought over there and hearing the stories, I just can’t get the idea of it being a **** hole out of my head.

If you like rice paddies, insects, and impenetrable jungle, you'll love Vietnam. :p
