Part of the reason we can't guard on ball is we help in the post so much with our guards.

I agree. But I don't think we need to need as much as we do. There were multiple times yesterday when we helped on Ostekowki, and it was stupid. I'd rather take my chances playing the bigs straight up having them potentially score a 2 point basket than doubling and leaving a wide open 3.

It makes sense when you look at some of our struggles. I think if Cam was a little more mature he has the alpha personality to fill that.

FWIW, I think Tyrese could develop into that role as he progresses in his career here.

Playing Dr. Phil here but I've wondered if Tyrese has attempted that (was the go-getter to start the season and you don't see that as much lately unless I'm just used to it) and wasn't allowed due to others thinking it's their job.

Just blind speculation.

LW seems like the type that could...but does someone who's supposed to be drafted early live in the present at that age?

Sometimes I wonder if CSP tries too many things and it makes it more complicated than needed.

Seems like a group that's better when they're just playing and not concerned with assignments.

I understand doubling on someone like Lawson. But most other teams in our conference don't really have any bigs that can beat you by themselves.

I don't know if this is this answer, and it might just be an overreaction to a very not fun game to watch yesterday: Should Lindell start over Tyrese?

I know TH's defense is better than Lindell's, but lately TH hasn't shown the ability to be a threat on the offensive end. Even if he isn't looking to score, he has to be able to get into the lane to create for others which has seemed to disappear as the conference season has gone on.

Ya I almost think we just go straight man to man principles and stop getting cute. I mean we can't leave any more shooters open than we did yesterday

Teams have figured out how to defend him

The thing that concerned me most were comments by Shayok and Wigginton in the post game press conference about lack of chemistry/needing to get their chemistry back. As others have mentioned, I also thought it odd players didn't come to NWB when he was down on the court.

I would be understandable and natural for jealously or selfishness to arise on this team. We had 4 "starter level" players injured or suspended early in the season. During that period the 3 freshman and Lewis stepped in and we played great ball. So blending it all back together, with players getting playing time they felt earned, was going to be a hard task for Coach Prohm.

There are probably some X's & O's that can be done to get this team playing well again, but IMO it comes down to 2 fundamental things:
  1. Guys have to accountable on defense. Guys need to be strong on-ball defenders. Help defense is great if it is the exception, but IMO our guys don't take it personal if the guy they're guarding gets past them. Also, too many uncontested jump shots. It's unfathomable at this level to see guys closing out without arms up.
  2. On offense we have a lot of talented scorers. Guys like Shayok, Wigginton and Horton-Tucker can make the tough shot. But that isn't sustainable over 40 minutes. Guys have to be willing to pass the ball, guys have to set SOLID screens so that their teammates can get great shots. The game announcer highlighted our lack of assists a number of times. We played 5 guards close to 160 minutes and they had 9 assists yesterday.
In the post game press conference it was hard to tell if Coach Prohm is thinking about shaking things up. His comments left me thinkng, he is at a loss on how to reach this team.

Regarding Lard. I hope he can come back, but I based on his play yesterday I think Conditt should be our first post player off the bench. One suspension can be overlooked, but getting suspended a 2nd time, IMO he is starting over to earn PT.

Why did you type all of that? And who is Tucker-Horten?

The loss didn't bother me. I expected them to lose, but the way they lost was not good. Just a really poor effort on defense. There are times you aren't going to score the ball but if you give a consistent effort and are in it mentally on defense you should be able to stay in the game during those stretches. They just flat out looked lost at times on defense. Not identifying shooters, helping off of shooters when they shouldn't be, couldn't stop dribble penetration, etc. And the team doesn't show the mental toughness it takes to come back from deficits. That first 12 minutes or so was good but once things starting going well for Texas it was like they folded.

I think they will beat WVU and and it will be a dogfight in Hilton against Tech. I thought they would likely go 2-2 in the final four but am crossing my fingers they can go 3-1. That would be a good end to the regular season.
