Absolutely. If Fred had followed the collapse in 2014-15 with 10-8 in 2015-16, he would have needed at least a Sweet 16 that year to prevent that two/three year run as not being viewed as a disappointing missed opportunity. That is with the benefit of getting credit for putting that group together. Had 2016-17 and 17-18 transpired in the same manner under Hoiberg, to be followed up by this missed opportunity in Year 9, many would wonder what would it take Hoiberg to have a breakthrough year.
It’s not 1999-2001 easy, but many things aligned for this season to be that banner year. Prohm hit on several recruits, had major injuries to top conference foes, and won some close road games. For that to be befuddled by home losses (to depleted TCU and Baylor teams) merits disappointment and doubt.
