We talking crab rangoons with actual crab in them, or the fried cream cheese balls that pass for rangoons most places? I like both, but I'd murder someone for the ones with real crab. The cream cheese ones are like the imitation crab salad you get at Subway - tasty, but not in the same league as real crab meat.
I remember at the King(?) Buffet that used to be on South Duff years ago down by K-Mart they had hand written signs on most of the offerings. The one on the rangoon said "Crad Rangoon". I don't know what "Crad" is but it certainly wasn't crab.

A lot of Chinese take outs in nyc call crab rangoons “cheese wonton.”

Yes, I like my crab Rangoon.

Pot Stickers FTW. Also consider teriyaki chicken/pork skewered and grilled over an open flame served on the stick should be considered too. Dumplings seem more like an entree, like ramen or fried rice are. Now the real question is egg drop or hot and sour soup?

Edited brain fart.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but spring rolls are just inherently better than both of the other options. It's the wrapper that is crunchier and better.

You've had bad egg rolls then.

For me, it really depends. The best egg rolls I've ever had are better than any crab rangoon I've ever had. The problem is so few Chinese restaurants actually have good egg rolls, but most of them have serviceable crab rangoons.

My wife prefers "Asian Cuisine" in Grimes. Ever been? How do they compare?

We have gotten takeout there several times over the years, but usually only if Fortune Garden is closed. The wife and I definitely prefer pretty much everything about FG. Asian Cuisine isn’t bad by any means but we just like the food from FG better. I also like fried rice and am not a fan of that from AC.

Love me some Fortune Garden but it's a rarity if I am able to order there. Apparently it is a popular place because I've stopped in there before just a few minutes after 11am on a weekday before and was told it was a 30 minute wait for carryout which is crazy considering they open up at 11. Must have a bunch of call in orders that come in right away? I've seen on Facebook this fall that they haven't been open some days too because the owner has had health issues. I'd love to eat there more but just need to call in an order in advance I guess because I have never had much luck just walking in and ordering without waiting a long time. The 1 time I did call in my food still wasn't ready for about another 15 minutes past the time they quoted me on the phone.

It’s really kind of crazy. I’ve had 90 minute wait times for takeout on more than one occasion. For Chinese food! We usually try to place our order around 5:30 knowing it will probably be 6:30 for pickup. It’s not uncommon either to get there when they say and have to wait another 10 or 15 minutes so I usually build that into my wait time before leaving the house. The worst is when they’ve been closed for a few days (or weeks when they go back to China). The demand for it is insane after that.

I've actually had really good, fancy egg rolls and enjoyed them... the wrapper style as well (and I'm a big fan of regular egg rolls). It's thicker and it throws off the ratio in a way that spring rolls does better.

Try a mixture of sweet and sour and the spicy mustard, it's a game changer.

Hot and sour soup? This one totally depends upon my appetite at the time.

What spring rolls are you eating that have a crunchy wrapper? Spring roll to me is a soft rice paper wrap and can have shrimp or chicken inside.

House of Chen here in Ames has a pretty good crispness to the rice paper - it's when you get that golden brown, flaky color on the rice paper. It has to be fried just right.

So this item is cooked? Spring rolls to me are cold.
