Well, in those days, our phone was attached by cord to the wall and I hoped it would not ring during naptimes.Yes! the unexpectedly long nap and the conundrum of do I do anything or sit here? I usually ended up sitting there and doing stuff on my phone if I could.
1-3 inches of snow??? And highs in the 20s???? Come on, give me until after Christmas and then you can do whatever you want.
If you're in the Black Hills you can get that in AugustFixed that for you. It can gladly wait until Christmas or later until the first real snow flies. We are planning on going to South Dakota for Thanksgiving and have had too many trips back home that were absolute **** thanks to snow/ice/wind/freezing rain/sleet/stupid drivers.

I can do with no snow forever. Managed to get 3 days of work in 2 so I can make the game Friday morning and not have to worry. Got an inch of snow on the combine as I was finishing. Ran out of it a couple miles from home. Drove 30 as the snow was like ice on the road.

Venting/asking for advice time...
When it comes to watching our kids our families are very different. MrxWx family if they are not busy (and sometimes when they are) will gladly watch them even at our house so they can be at home. My parents on the other hand seem to find every excuse/reason why they can't or are unavailable to watch them.
For instance tomorrow MrxWx's family is moving so they can't watch the kids and my mom was going to go to the game so we have no one to watch the kids. Fine MrsWx will stay home. This morning my mom decides not to go to the game due to the cold and fully knowing that she can watch the kids (we would have even take them to their house for the day) but instead she texts and says that she can watch them but not until 1 so she can run errands (errands that would not have been run at that time if she went to the game) and wants them at her house at that time so she can get stuff done (again stuff that would not have been done at that time had she gone to the game).
1. We can't get to the game on time leaving at 1
2. We have already told them our other baby sitters the kids are comfortable with are busy
3. 1ish is begining of nap time
This is not a one time thing. It just really irritates me that we give them every opportunity to be involved with our kids and they seem to want to constrain it as much as possible. Another frustration is MrsWx is going back to school for nursing starting in January. My parents have made it clear that my mom could retire and make the same amount or more on IPERS right now. So I asked my mom if she would retire (always complains about her job) and watch the kids a day or two a week. "No". Meanwhile my MIL is moving her part time job schedule around to help watch the kids while MrsWx is in class.
Am I wrong for being very irritated?

Absolutely not. The vixen and I are frustrated, just like you are, because we have grandkids in Des Moines that we would love to spend time with (babysit), and can't because it just isn't close enough.
Our son-in-law's mom, however, who lives just a few blocks away, refuses to help them with that, or even interact with the kids all that much. IMHO, she is an absolute failure at being a grandparent.
We haven't said a word to our SIL about this - but we both know our daughter is not happy about it. We're torn on what to do, mainly because I think even if we said something, nothing would change.
When someone else is taking care of your kids for free, you should be happy regardless of constraints. Having kids impacts your life greatly and it's something you have to accept. You'll be late to a lot of things you wouldn't normally be late to. It's just a part of parenthood.
You probably need to adjust your expectations. Maybe she just doesn’t want to be a babysitter and would rather do other things. That’s her prerogative, even though it doesn’t make sense from your perspective.Venting/asking for advice time...
