If you can, wait a few weeks for Black Friday and go for the Xbox - usually great deals on those or even good bundles. Can probably even pick one up for same deal leading up to Black Friday (Wal-Mart, Amazon, etc.), so might not have to wait.

That is a good point...

Our Blu-Ray player crapped out so we are in the market for a new one. The debate though is do we buy an X-Box or just get another Blu-Ray player. Leaning towards just getting another player since I am cheap the the X-Box is expensive along with the fact most games don't interest me.

Or get a PS4 because they’re better.

Ames peeps what was the banner a plane was flying over Ames around 5pm Sat about? Drove by on the interstate but couldn't read the banner.
They flew the same banner every day of Farm Progress and I couldn't read it then either.

Current crest projection puts the Cedar at 19.7 in CR on Sunday. That would put it 5th all time and the third or fourth 15+ foot crest since the end of August.

So question for our farmer friends here. Long story short my cousin farms and he is scheduled to have a hip replacement in early November. I am debating reaching out to offer assistance but the catch is I have never driven any farm equipment but I can drive a manual and have driven very large dump trucks.

Should I reach out or will I just be in the way?

New tractors arent difficult to drive at all, especially if they just show you what you need for that specific thing you are doing.

Will that put those RR tracks down by Quaker under water? When I was down there a couple of weeks ago it was pretty darn close to them.

Offer your help, I'm guessing when he scheduled that he thought he'd be pretty close to done by then. Doesn't take long to show someone what to do. You'll feel good about offering even if they say no, and they'll appreciate that you care enough to offer. Well that's my two cents worth.

Not exactly sure.

Give it a whirl. What’s the worst that could happen? You catch a post, knock a hole in an oil pan and shred out a track. Those things happen all the time. Nothing that 60k wouldn’t cover.

It doesn’t happen but give it a try anyhow.

We never had a Blu-Ray player. If you want something cheap and disposable, buy another one. We have a PS3, PS4, and an Xbox. Hubby got the Xbox Black Friday last year at WM. We use the PS3 as a blu ray and streaming device in the basement, mostly for kids’ movies. The PS 4 is our DVD player in the living room. The Xbox is in our room. Hubby has games he will play, but not very often. Other than RockSmith, the kids don’t game on the other devices.

The rail yard looks to be safe until 20-21 feet. It actually looks like they have lowered the projects down another foot to 18 feet. Here is an inundation map but I am not sure how up to date it is. This summer they finished a new levee in the vicinity of the old Sinclair meat packing site (labeled as Osborn park on the map) and Quaker is working on their new levee right now. What I am getting at the city is well prepared for in excess of a 20 foot crest. Without making this political I personally don't think we need crazy flood protection like they want when it has only gone over 20 feet a handful of times.
