What is Cy's favorite burrito?

THIS. This was the burrito of choice to hit up on a night after hitting Campustown bars and chew on it all night. It was also the first place to really get me into burritos. I hit the Pancheros in IC shortly after 97 and was disappointed how it didn't compare to the one in Ames.

Now my favorite burrito is the Burrito Ahogado, found at Lupita's El Super Burrito in Cedar Rapids.

I've eaten approx 4.5 pounds of burritos (3 chipotle) in 27 minutes. 6 pounds in half an hour would be difficult but doable with a little planning and practice.

When the portions were big, and the prices were low

And the guys making the burritos were high, giving you free guac.

For a slight change of flavor I like the philly cheezesteak burrito from Pepper Jax Grill, it's not necessarily my favorite, but pretty good.

A couple of years ago I would have said Pancheros but it just isn't what it once was. My new go to is the Carne Asada burrito from Abelardo's.

El Super is a hidden treasure, I worked a mile from there and went many times.

Azteca has a Chacas burrito with steak, chicken, beans, rice and a chipotle sauce that is delicious.

Not a huge fan of the Panchero’s red hot sauce (too smoky for me) but love to top off my burrito with some of their green sauce.

The green sauce is awesome, main reason I will pick Panch over others.

I used to like chain burrito places, but once el azteca came to Ames I haven’t been back to any. I actually think they all are crap now, especially panchero’s.

Sammy’s burrito at El Azteca is the right answer here.

I used to love the chicken burrito with black beans & guac at Pancheros. But about a half year ago or more they changed their tomatillo hot sauce recipe to a smokey flavor. Big mistake. I've been back once to see if they corrected their sin, but they hadn't. So they lost a guy that ate there once or twice a week, if not more.

Now I'll get a steak buritto from Pepperjax or Chipotle instead. I also enjoy a smothered Fuzzy's buritto once & a while. I used to get it smothered with queso, but I sampled the green sauce and may like that even better. The place on Welch makes a good buritto when I'm in Ames.

More on Pancheros. They have made a number of changes over the years for the worse.

1. They used to have a spicy pork burrito that was grilled and cut fresh similar to the way they prepare steak & chicken. It was my favorite. They replaced it with carnitas, which is also good, but I miss the old spicy pork.
2. They replaced their bottles of purchased hot sauce with a smokey flavor that I think they make in house. I think the old sauce was a relabeled Cholula sauce. Not a show stopper, but another move in the wrong direction. They used to have a few extra bottles of the old stuff hidden away that you could request, but those ran out long ago.
3. Bobbing my buritto may be great for most people but not for me. I always get guacamole. Bobbing makes the quac disappear. I also don't like them playing with my food any more than they have to. You can always request no Bob, but the workers no longer know the build technique. They used to be trained to build the buritto by spreading the ingredients out before rolling it. Now they just pile it up and let the bob process take care of spreading it out before rolling it. It's a pain to tell them no Bob so spread it out, and watch many of the newer people get confused. Still wasn't a show stopper.
4. That brings us to the tomatillo change. Hot sauce is critical to a good buritto. The smokey flavor is not for me. There is no getting around this change, so they lost me as a loyal customer.

I might! Burritos are serious business! But really, people like what they like which is cool. I would be interested in hearing about places I've never heard of.
