Kate Spade

It saddens me that this has received way more press than today being the 50th anniversary of RFK's assassination.

She enriched herself via vanity. Yes, it's unfortunate that she felt strongly enough to do herself in but she's not some visionary that deserves all this attention. She made handbags and became famously wealthy. Only an out-of-whack, fanatically, religiously consumerist country like this would blow such a thing out of proportion.

"...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee."

John Donne

We're all in this together, friend. Why not show a little compassion for a fellow human being?

Will you be displaying compassion for Trump when he dies? I won't. Not that Kate Spade is even close to the same stratosphere of sh*t Donny's in, but she made handbags and enriched herself on unchecked vanity. Don't need to feel great compassion for the death of somebody I do not respect.

Don't strain yourself.

Yes, I will struggle to display compassion for him when he dies, not because I like or respect him, but rather out of compassion for all of us.

Fair enough. I wish I shared your outlook.

First, I've read plenty of stuff on RFK today. You just have to open your eyes and you'll find plenty of tributes to him. Second, part of the reason why this death is getting more attention is because it happened today. RFK died 50 years ago. Third, in general there is always a lot of attention of celebrity deaths. I have no idea if you get on your high horse about every thread on here about a dead celebrity, but I'm guessing you don't. Forth, I don't expect you to understand but there was a lot of symbolism for some women in Kate Spade products. I've read countless tweets about how women felt like they'd made it when they were able to buy a Kate Spade purse with their own money. Kind of like you might be sentimental about buying something that you didn't really need.

I kept it civil. Surprising take coming from you, I respect your thoughts regardless if I disagree.
I respect you too, man. I apologize for my terseness. Just be cool, okay?

I expressed an opinion and said it’s too bad that she killed herself.

Get called a douchebag and garbage.

Pot meet kettle

Maybe you didn't read the final sentence of the OP? Might be a good time to do so.

In the meantime, is everything okay? You sound like you could really use a hug.

Guess I never saw the point of degrading someone, especially after they passed away.

I had never heard of her but if the worst thing she did was make money off an item that people really liked, she definitely wasn’t a bad person.

I had to run down to the plaza today to enrich myself with some vanity and people were leaving flowers outside the Kate Spade store on the plaza.

Amazing, some people have had enough kindness today to express condolences and respect to RFK, Kate Spade, and the original reported HIV/AIDS cases 37 years ago today.

Do you own anything that you don’t need, that’s nice? A pair of Nike’s, an iPhone? If you are married doesn’t your wife wear makeup, have her wedding dress?
Those are items that were started by a person that dreamed and worked hard to create something and employed thousands of people.
I don’t get dissing someone that stayed out of the spotlight for the most part. Who knows if she gave money to charity or if she left money in her will to people that need it.

If the Pope can say “who am I to judge?” in regards to a topic that could get this sent to the cave, who are we to judge what she was personally dealing with? Depression is awful, I hope her family and friends are ok.

Yeah I bet if it'd been some football player we wouldn't be having this conversation. Again, entirely inappropriate. Probably short of oxygen up on that high horse.

I've heard coverage of both today and would never have thought to link the two.

If I'm going to compare and contrast something to RFK that was in the news today it would probably be a the leader of our country and major news media outlet declaring a dog whistle race war on black professional athletes.

The funniest part is that his avatar is of a man who earned over $100 million during an NBA career; money made at a time that ticket prices and apparel costs have become exorbitant, to the point that many families are priced out of watching a game.
A man who fathered three children out of wedlock; two of whom he didn't acknowledge until they were 17, and then only because they had distinguished themselves on their own. The third, he refuses to have any contact with at all. (The mother was 13 when he impregnated her.)
The biggest wtf in all of this is that Karl Malone's father committed suicide when Karl was three. He himself grew up fatherless.

How do I know all of this? Keep reading.

@Malone, your rhetoric saddens me. My favorite NBA player? Karl Malone. I have three of his jerseys: one purple with the jazz note logo, one with copper 90s redesign, and his #11 Olympics jersey. My daughter's softball number? 32. Because of the Mailman.
Now everytime I think about my favorite player, I'm also going to think about that time that weird rando **** all over my thread on CF.
