MLB: ***Official 2018 Chicago Cubs Season Thread***

“Jon Lester is gonna pinch hit here” are words I’d never, ever thought I’d hear.

It’s happened before. He almost always bunts on a squeeze play.

Probably the most I’ve missed Arrieta so far actually! He got the job done though. I think Jake could have been a pretty solid every day hitter.

So... what does the D look like in the bottom of the 9th. Bryant at first, Zo at second, and Baez at 3rd?

Hitting every day is difficult. After pitchers get a big enough sample size, they find the holes in your swing.

Jake, MadBum, Mike Hampton, Maddux, and Zambrano are some of the best hitting pitchers I’ve ever seen.

BigZ was a “good hitter” the same way the Adam Dunn was a good hitter. Zambrano hitting his first home run was the beginning of the end for him. He became more interest in hitting that pitching, IMO.

And I still can’t believe the coaching staff tolerated him trying to switch hit. First off, he was such a better hitter from the right side. And second, it put his throwing arm towards the pitcher and risked an arm injury if he got hit.

Also... whar Orel Hershiser. That guy batted .300 several times.

great win for the mojo, gets to the home opener w/o losing a series

I brought up Arrieta because coaches would often comment on his overall athletic ability as among the best on the team. Then several years he hit for decent average and good power. Watching Ohtani hit is pretty fun so far.

Big Z put up an OPS of almost .900 in 2008 which is crazy, hit over .300 three times, loved watching him play
