****Official Class of 2019 Recruiting Thread****

Wonder how hard ISU is going to recruit Carton? Saw all the teams that were going to visit him and ISU wasn't one.

For context:

@MatthewBain_ Per @DJCarton's HS coach: Carton has in-home visits w/ Iowa, Ohio St. & Marquette this month, also scheduling Indiana & Wisconsin. Iowa, Virginia, Ohio St., Michigan, Wisconsin & Indiana all called yesterday about Carton. Ohio St. and Michigan will visit him at school today.

It is pretty obvious the staff is prioritizing other point guards for 2019 (Lewis, McKinney, Tandy, + Transfer options) over Carleton. The late offer seemed odd in timing, especially considering up to that point there wasn't much if any association of ISU and Carleton up to then. The more I think about it may have been a political move to swing favor of offering a instate kid to the media, fans and AAU program for future prospects.

I think Kira Lewis looks like a Bama lock. Tandy might be a kid ISU can get. McKinney is a Missouri favorite right now but just got offers from Louisville and Virginia Tech. I think this is why the Utah State kid would be a home run. Doesn't look like they are in on any elite PG recruits right now. Of course things change in recruiting.

They really aren't the favorites for any of the kids they have offered in the 2019 class so far. I do think they will have a decent shot with Liddell because of THT.

It's early April. We'll be fine.

Wigginton had and offer from Arizona, Loisville, and Oregon who was considered the favorite up to the day before he committed to ISU.
THT had offers from MSU, Kansas and Illinois was considered the favorite up to the day before he committed to ISU.
Not trying to be that guy but just wanted to point out that Prohm will go up against any program and has a lot of recruiting wins on his resume already.
Tyler Harris was a near lock to commit to ISU from the media in September and didn't. So Prohm doesn't always win either.
Recruiting winds change quickly. It is very early in the process I wouldn't call any player a lock for a commitment in April... unless they are from Iowa and their Dad is the coach.

I'll be skeptical of Prohm's southern recruiting strategy until he can land a few guys, but as other have said, it is very early in the recruiting cycle.
If the staff can build decent relationships, we should be able to go head to head with freaking Alabama.

Yeah, the southern thing hasn't worked out yet.

Still think there are a lot of St Louis and Kansas City kids we can get. Cuonzo is obviously the hot coach right now until he starts losing though.

We have not done really well recruiting the south yet. Have had some kids interested. However, it's kind of hard going into the south and convincing a kid to come to Iowa if he has other good options.

Do we consider Lard a south win? I think the staff will focus on MW prospects especially considering this years class moving forward but want The staff to go after any prospect the see as a good fit for ISU no matter the region.
The first couple of years the staff was coming off recruiting the south to Murray state (other than TJ), they used those AAU connections to recruits thus the "southern" strategy. As the get more known and connections in the MW there will be targets to closer to Ames. Still no reason to ignore the south, there are some really good prospects there.

I know the history. Just pointing out that is hasn't been successful yet. Recruiting midwest kids and Canadian kids seems to yield the best results. Didn't say they should ignore it.

I'm surprised all kids don't go the Lard prep route of getting into college rather than JUCO, JUCO you tie up 2 years of eligibility if not qualifying out of high school while prep is 0.

Looks like I found Prohm's CF handle: @Stereotype
