Today is one of those days where I would have said "Naaaaaah, not worth it. Taking a vacation day today." And then I remember that I don't need to tell anyone I'm not going to be there. :D

One of the great benefits of being retired, you can just stay home. Although, like you, I had already gotten to the point of taking a vacation day if the roads were bad. We had a very liberal leave policy so it was never a problem and beat the hell out of risking getting your car all crunched up in the commute.

My Saturday night fry pan order just arrived. Back in the day it was "Ding, dong, Avon calling!". Today it's "Ding dong Amazon delivery!"

Will unpack later, have to head to go run and stuff. Mexico beach in 12 days (must not embarrass self) and ISU group run on April 8 (must not embarrass self).

Just read there was one death and 5 serious injuries in that pile up. :(
With that many vehicles involved, I suppose we're lucky it wasn't far worse. Looking at a more current picture, it appears that many of the vehicles were still mobile, as a lot of them have been moved (a few were shoved in the ditches. Traffic is moving again.

Hoping that Bon-Ton bankruptcy filing doesn't mess you up.

Right now it's just business as usual.

What is Bon-Ton?

They have stores from NY state, to Wisconsin, all the way out west to Idaho and Montana. They're closing the stores in Cedar Rapids and Cedar Falls here in Iowa out of the 47 stores they're closing in total across the US.

I just sent a team email out for my work office letting them know. for 70+ cars it's a great thing there were not more injuries.

So sad. I have a relative that goes Ankeny to Ames every day, so I checked on her but she always takes Highway 69 when the weather is bad.
A lot of people do. Primarily because of the afore-mentioned trucks. Also, if you slide off of Hwy 69, it's almost always less steep than running off of I35...the ditches are pretty shallow.

A couple teachers had to make that drive home, sounds like it took them about 1:45 to get from Gilbert to Ankeny taking back roads.

Pretty light, but still snowing here. Started at 8:30 this morning.

I just don't understand the people that refuse to slow down when conditions are bad.

You may recognize Boston Store or Younker's more readily

Younkers yes. Boston store no clue. I honestly buy work clothes basically. My wife's family still buys presents for each other for occasions (this includes occasions like flag day and first lawn mow of the year) so I basically just wear that the few times a year that it's required. I'm very cheap on clothes which is good because if we can go one day without a package of clothes for the wife being dropped off, I find it a happy day. Today there has already been two.

View attachment 53367 Jimmy Fallon just ate dinner at one of my neighbor’s houses. If you watch the video, you can see my porch in the background. Here’s a pic of my youngest daughter holding his beer glass.
The daughter goes to school with one of the kids, but I have to confess that I don't really know the family. Mrs. Velo was watching mom's reaction to Jimmy's arrival on her facebook machine. How did Jimmy like the tater tot hot dish?
