Wasn't getting enough one on one attention, didn't like being pushed, felt it was a distraction are the reasons for leaving.

After listening to multiple podcasts discussing this subject IF coaches do talk to former athletes then it is a clear violation of NCAA rules. Apparently in the opinion of many others it is a big deal. I can imagine that if an athlete isn't happy and they are talking regularly to a coach from another school whom has different philosophies in coaching that would create a lot of doubt for the athlete and make it harder to buy in the the new program.

This comes off as fairly mentally weak to me, but best of luck to Kanen. I hope he finds the place he can be happy at, whether that is at Virginia with the Paulsons or somewhere else.

Our athletes, not limited to wrestling, talk all the time about exchanging texts or otherwise talking to coaches who have moved on. I'm 100% confident that Montgomery will be in contact with Ayani next year. And outside ISU you have really public examples like Snyder sending personal letters to opposing players after games.

Also at least quote my post so you can see it addressed the "extensive phone calls" part.

I wonder if Storr said something to Dresser that is making him go after the tampering thing - like them telling him he'd have a scholarship offer if he decided to transfer, or something like that. Because coaches talk to their former athletes all the time and it usually isn't a big deal unless they are actually recruiting the guy to their new team. Not letting the Paulson's off the hook here, because "extensive phone calls" goes beyond just staying in contact and they know the rules well enough to know that's against them. Just wondering what caused Dresser to request the records.

The interesting thing I heard from one of the interviews that Kanen mentioned

Kanen didn't think he was getting enough individual attention. The staff said at the beginning of the season that everyone was going to get the attention to reach their potential.

I think one of the complaints I heard with KJ and staff was that only the starters and elite were getting the attention and the rest of the team was getting ignored.

Just the opposite

Apologize if I heard that wrong or misunderstood what Kanen was talking about

That’s exactly how I took it. Agree also that was a big complaint about the last staff.
