I see vandals got to the Field of Dreams. My guess is kids that know nothing of the movie and the feelings it evoked in people. Not that that is any excuse.

That is just as bad as the Iowa beehives that were vandalized--over $60K in damages including the loss of bees. Vandals had taken out the security cameras first, and people were still trying to say it was maybe bears or something. No, just 12 & 13yr old kids. That is like 6th grade.

I give. I'm not a government employee. I've got to get back to work. ;)

Speaking of high school sports, to say the husband is not at all happy about Ottumwa and Mason City being placed in the same football district again would be a gargatuan understatement.

Wow, they would have to miss most of school just for the bus ride. Crazy.

One of my kids only went a half day in a week a few years ago between conference and district tennis, AP tests, and math contests. That was at end of year though.

Mine never have study hall except non PE day.

The upper level and AP math and science courses seem to ratchet up homework substantially. He did that first so he could get help from Dad or brothers if he needed it, but he didn’t. I got to proof the Macbeth essay, which he finished up last.

Part of the homework is because she is in some honors classes. The Honors Science teacher is so bad, daughter pretty much teaches herself in that class. She won't ever be in high level math classes, which is fine--right now just algebra is enough homework for her.

Today the animal care and production class went to the state fairgrounds to judge pigs. She at least has seen pigs and has held a piglet before. Some of these kids probably haven't set foot in a barn before, while a few live on farms and have animals. A neighbor down the street has a freshman daughter who open enrolls to Ames. She said they have no ag classes at all which seems a little odd.

The best thing about CF is the pop culture gifs and other references. I think my head would explode without being able to burn off some of them here. Gal friend texted me the other day and it just begged for a Sterling Archer "Phrasing" gif reply but she wouldn't have "gotten" it.

Gotta disagree. Best thing on CF today is that Mad Fran got Barta to agree to a buyout of over $10 million in November lulz.

We have one lightly enrolled ag class probably because all the kids know that lol.

We also have no honors classes, but our TAG program.

Certain classes have Honors sections that you have to score above a certain point on standardized tests to qualify for. I think most of them are freshman/sophomore year because after that you can start taking DMACC/ISU classes. She is also in ELP (extended learning program--basically TAG). Technically those students could take college credit classes earlier but sophomore year is full of required classes, so not much wiggle room until junior year anyway. Our ag classes include things like horticulture, landscaping, small engine, mechanics, welding, ag science, etc. We definitely have more city than rural folks.

The one thing they are grateful to crazy old mom for is making them take four years of Spanish, got the two that have been in engineering at ISU out of having to take it there.

Son will have 6 credits after this year. Then next year will be mostly college business classes.

My son is one of the few ones with a full time farmer as a dad and he’s in 0 ag classes. Not excessive interest and instructor I don’t think is strong and I’m trying to be nice.

That is what we are having her do, too. She said there is a junior in her Spanish 1 class. I told her I hope that kids doesn't want to go to a school like ISU. Get it done in HS.
