Don't be a science-denier KC. Math does "work". View attachment 53180
Not always.

One of the kids up until 1:30 doing homework. Miss the days they gave a lighter load on “church night,” although it’s a good thing he is done with religious ed or he would have been up until 3:00.

There is a "mom" group on FB for Gilbert. Someone had asked about the amount of homework kids do in HS--consensus was they feel their kids don't have enough homework. I didn't comment, but our freshman seems to have homework at least 3-4 nights out of the week if not more. She has 2 study halls (although with their alternating schedule, it may only be one a day) and still has homework. I think the moms commenting were ones whose kids have multiple study halls in a day and no extra curricular activities.

She was slightly freaking out because she was going to miss 2 days of school this week for school events--she feels she will fall behind in class if she misses anything. Meanwhile 3 different friends missed a week of school because their families went skiing in CO. One of those even missed a day of finals when they had to reschedule, and it sounds like the teacher was not aware she would miss.

There are no lights but even then it is middle school soccer that will take an hour and a half total with the earliest games in April. Push it back by an hour or two and you will still be fine. Sadly the reason seems to be the fact that classes get out at 2:45 and the school/coaches don't want to be responsible for a bunch of middle schoolers with nothing to do for that extra time or have to worry about them being back in time.

Let me know if you decide to ref and need someone to help you get back into ref-shape. I'll record myself screaming "SHE WAS OFFSIDES!!" fifty times and post it on your FB wall.

Speaking of high school sports, to say the husband is not at all happy about Ottumwa and Mason City being placed in the same football district again would be a gargatuan understatement.

Thought they might be 3A. At least you have a guaranteed win. Sons district is turrible.

One of my kids only went a half day in a week a few years ago between conference and district tennis, AP tests, and math contests. That was at end of year though.

Mine never have study hall except non PE day.

The upper level and AP math and science courses seem to ratchet up homework substantially. He did that first so he could get help from Dad or brothers if he needed it, but he didn’t. I got to proof the Macbeth essay, which he finished up last.
