Recruits stats and Senior performance

Nick and his assists beg to differ. But yeah, THT definitely adds a lot of dimensions to our team.

Never said Nick isn't a good passer, just that I think THT is a better NATURAL passer. For example, just check out even the first part of these highlights. I don't recall seeing Nick make too many (if any) like the ones THT makes, and you see similar skills in almost every highlight video out there. And, check out the dribbling/passing around the 1:06 - 1:13. I can see him initiating the offense in certain situations/matchups.

THT may start next year, but if not, his ball skills should have him first off the bench. THT may be our backup pg, depending on Wigginton’s development.

I think THT will be like Wigginton in that he will be more ready to play than most freshman. His high school team plays an elite schedule and he is proving he is an elite player every night. I am so glad he signed in November, he is having a great year.

Two questions about this...

(1.) Who does he start over of...

Weiler-Babb
Wigginton
Shayok
Lard
Young

...which seems to be our consensus for next year right now?

No way you put NWB or Wigginton on the bench. The beat writers have let slip a few times that Shayok would be our best player right now.

A 6'5" THT instead of Beverly as an undersized 4 man?

Not Griffin (who is ranked higher)?

Send one of Lard or Young to the bench?

It takes a really special freshman to start in the Big 12 on what looks to be a more competitive and deeper team than this one. Georges Niang did not manage it until the middle of his freshman season, and neither could Monté Morris until January. Wigginton starting now is a combination of him being that special and us being so shorthanded. I do not know if THT is going to be quite that good or be walking into such a fluid situation for PT.

(2.) I thought NWB would be our starting PG next year (and probably play 35+ MPG) with Wigginton taking the spot minutes when he is not on the court?

lard/solo/jacobsen split the 80 mpg at 4/5. wigg/shayok/babb will all play 30 mpg+.

so that leaves 30 mins for lewis/THT/griffin.

Not complaining or disagreeing here, but that does leave out...

I figure one (if not both) of the last two might be RS candidates.

It might suck next year if NWB graduates and Wigginton goes pro. Starting over at the PG position all the sudden, but I am sure Prohm would handle it.

Like previously alluded to by another poster, imo we could effectively see 4 starters in the backcourt in terms of minutes played.

1.) A great situation to be in. I’m pretty confident NWB and Young will start, and I’m guessing as a former UVa/Bennett guy, Shayok doesn’t have any holes in his game. Imo it’s between Wigginton, THT, and Lard for the last two. I’d assume Prohm would give it to the sophomores for various externalities.

2.) Agree. I’d be very surprised if NWB isn’t playing 30 minutes at pg.

Agree, and that’s when McNeill really ****** us, although he would be a significant contributor before then.

Wigginton might already be our best player, so I do not see how he does not start.

Seems you are on the...

NWB
Wigginton
Shayok
THT - sort of as a very rich man's Jeff Beverly
Young

...train, which sounds reasonable enough.

Having guys like Lewis, Griffin, and Lard coming off the bench is not a bad situation.

I am betting
NWB
Wigginton
Shayok
Jacobson
Young

Love the tweet about THT being a "grown man".

Wasn't he still 16 a few weeks ago?

I think if THT starts it’s over Wigginton, but I’m guessing the starting five is the three returners plus Lard and Shayok.

Wigginton’s potentially our best scorer right now, particularly when he’s hitting the tough shots he tends to take. THT is a scorer as well, but imo he’s ahead of Wigginton in other areas.

Saying Wigginton won't start every game while he's here is a bad take

Considering how often injuries and what not occurs, I hope nobody redshirts. Would be nice to have more than 10 guys to avoid certain situations. Would also be nice to use the quality and maybe press more often, meaning guys wouldn't have to play 39 minutes and/or worry about foul trouble.

If THT comes in and is better than Wigginton at scoring and most everything else, or at least better at everything else to make up for any deficiency to one of the best natural scorers we have ever had as a freshman, then he is going to be damned good. And that is not just better than Wigginton now but Wigginton in ten months from now after all the coaching, practice, and experience in the Big 12 that is going to come to #5 before then.

Just for context, and I realize Wiggi is doing this against scrub minor conference teams and not conference foes, but checking his per 40 stats right now...

Versus our three starting guards from last year...

upload_2017-12-23_12-4-35.png

-- Wiggi is shooting just as well from three
-- He is shooting 6.2 FTs per 40, compared to <3 per 30 from the other three, so he is already better at drawing contact at the rim, if not quite the finisher yet
-- pretty similar on rebounding, assisting at the rate a SG should
-- fewer steals but slightly more blocks, and he is fouling at a low rate
-- slightly higher on turnovers, which he does need to clean up
-- scoring more than any of the three overall

Morris was first-team all-conference and Naz was second-team. As seniors.

This guy is playing at their level of productivity and efficiency as a true freshman in his first two months of college ball, even if the schedule is going to stiffen soon.

THT better be magic if he can send a guy like this to the bench.
