Are you living in Iowa? When I return to Iowa, I do get reminded of how friendly, polite and welcoming the people of Iowa generally are. I enjoy living in Minnesota but the residents do tend to have a layer of protection about getting to know outsiders. People are nice and have similar values to people in Iowa but there is that wall that you need to get through and it can be tough to do.

Yeah, when we moved into our neighborhood people were friendly enough but something Minnesotans don't do is invite their neighbors into their houses. We only have one set of neighbors who have ever really invited us into their homes for a party, dinner or really for any other reason. Those neighbors are actually born and bred Wisconsinites. We have invited many people over for a deck party, for dinner or drinks and they might come but they simply don't invite people into their houses. Everyone else is friendly enough but I have never been invited to dinner anywhere here except by someone who is originally from somewhere else.

There's a few episodes of this on Netflix. The kids are old enough now that they enjoy them.

We do get invited over to neighbor's houses on occasion but my wife is from Minnesota. Prior to meeting my wife, my friends were from Iowa, Wisconsin and South Dakota (and small-town Southern Minnesota).
