In baseball the Dodgers and Yankees can generate more profit than anyone else because of their market plus because they control the majority of their broadcast channel.
Similar to the PAC 12. If they add Texas then their market and more importantly future market will be much bigger than the SEC their real competition.

If UT does go to the PAC 12 only two of the four spots are certain
UT and OU.
Even with Tech's past relationships with the Arizona schools and Colorado their spot is not for certain unless the university wants to begin to invest into their academic product

Okie Lite and T. Boone Pickens might as well try for the SEC because Pickens is not a well like man even in Texas.

The PAC 12 owns their own network unlike the rest of the conferences. Even the BIG has allowed FOX to own 51% of their network.
The issue at hand for the Pac12 is that the have become the enemy of the major networks like CBS.

Here in northern California I have ready access to the Big Ten Network. I have yet to locate Pac 12 Network on my channel guide. It's probably somewhere, I just haven't run across it. Except for a select few places like Oregon, Washington and USC the passion / support of Pac 12 fans for college football sucks. Never understood the concept of how bolting on Texas and a few others will wake up indifferent west coast college football market.

Larry Scott was heralded as a marketing genius, but I don't see the PAC innovating. Half the time I can't even finish watching their marquee games, and I live in the Pacific time zone.

UT is the only university that is Top 25 in all time wins in FB, bb, wbb, baseball and softball.
UT is Top 3 in wins in both baseball and football.
Actually has more unclaimed national championships than anyone in football.
UT's football program should be the best and maybe in 75 years it will be.

To compare UT to UGA is a stretch.
Georgia takes the cake in underachieving and it is not even close. UGA should be the blueblood program of the South but Bama and UTjr have more prestige.

I guess what is not being realized by ISU fans is this UT team is getting better every week.
The previous game UT took a SC team that was on a 11 game win streak, I believe, to OT. If a few calls went UT's ways the Longhorns would have beaten the Trojans.
If they had a bye week that means they actually had almost two weeks to improve from their last game. I have seen evidence on the field that this UT team is getting better and come January may end up BIG XII Champions, Top 5 and a Group of 6 Bowl winner.

If a few calls had gone Iowa State's way they would have beaten texas...see, that works for everyone.

Texas was gifted both TD's because of personal foul penalties that negated three and outs. The longhorn defense was spectacular, but that offense was bad. Forty minutes of possession and only 17 points?

I think it's more delusional. We have a legit shot of going to a bowl game. Outside of OU I think we can realistically beat anyone on our schedule. I'm not saying we will, but realistically we can get to 6 or 7 wins.

Even an idiot like Mack Brown won a national champion here and some Big XII championships. Besides Muschamp Orlando is the best D.C. I have seen in Austin and Herman is the best coach I have seen here in my life.
Prepare for a brunt orange colored party in the Big XII the next 20 years if the conference is around for that long.

havent read many of the posts in this thread but I haven't fully understood the complete meltdown of many on this site after last thursday. Yeah we looked bad but its sports and somedays just arent your day. Manning didnt forget how to call plays and make adjustments, Cambell didnt forget how to coach, and Park didnt forget how to throw the football. It was an off night and disappointing but I left the game with a different disappointment than in years past. I was disappointed about the day but not the direction of the program! I had way different feelings after the Utah beatdown a few years ago and getting mopped by baylor a couple years back too. those nights felt like we had a much longer road in front of us!

In theory yes but in theory adding Rutgers to the B1G would open the NYC market up to the B1G and it just hasnt happened. people in NYC don't care about college FB and neither does the west coast. If USC is not good, LA doesn't care about NCAA football.

UT and OU leaving for the PAC12 is a worse decision than Nebby going to the B1G. It's neat for a year or so as new teams and faces roll through town but after that, you are left with few or no traditional rivalries, long plane/bus rides, and home games that your fans are not excited to see.

Texas is not immune to the same outcomes just because they are Texas, especially if they are not a top 10 or 15 team on a consistent bases. Add in a good chunk of your games being played on Pacific time and now even less viewers are tuning in nationwide.

... one more point: i am pretty sure the BigXII is the only conference UT could keep the longhorn network due to conference bylaws. thats a nice chunk of change for the AD and have you seen the payouts to the PAC12 schools from the PAC12 network? i think its the worst among P5 conferences and if i recall, it wasn't even close.

There are two different ways a conference makes money.
One is selling their games to a network. That is based on viewership. The contract that the Big XII has with ESPN and FOX is based on how much those networks can sell commercial space.
The second way is conference networks. Conference networks are based upon amount of televisions or households. They sell the channel to cable and satellite providers.
Then the satellite or cable provider can make it a premium channel and charge an additional rate of that channel.

The issue with the Pac 12 network is that the conference owns the network so in theory if the network has a superior product then the network and therefore the conference makes more revenue because it doesn't have to split the revenue with FOX or ESPN. This is where UT and OU comes in.

Stanford and the Silicon Valley is the epicenter of technology including microelectronics.
UT and Austin is right behind. If UT can merge with Stanford it will be beneficial in the future for the state of Texas. This means jobs, higher property taxes and most importantly additional research in that sector.
If UT would join the PAC 12 it will be because the state of Texas feels like California is the future. Most people have no idea the similarities between the states and moving forward how both states need and should exert themselves as the future of the United States.
