Who do you stop? (Cyclone Offense)

Yeah Texas's front is better than Iowa. Iowa's front has actually been much worse that I thought they would be. In what little I have seen outside of ISU, I think our next two games will be the best front 7's we see all year.

Texas has better athletes than Iowa, but that doesn't mean their defense is better. , Against Maryland they were very undisiplined, and gave up some huge plays. While they looked much better against usc, their ol was not good at all. We will have opportunities to make plays.

I would look at their USC performance as being more representative of their abilities instead of the first game under a new coach.

I have no doubt that TX is talented, but they have also been very sloppy on both sides of the ball for the last 3-4 years. Let's not forget that they lost at KU last year. I think Herman is going to be a very good fit for them, but I also can't believe that they are ready to challenge for the Big 12 title after beating a really bad team and putting up a good fight against USC. Can't believe Texas is going to come in with much respect for lowly Iowa State.

We will see Thursday.

  1. The discussion is about their defense
  2. Texas of the last 3-4 years has as much relevance as iSu of the last 3-4 years. I mean..Texas destroyed iSu last year. Texas showed great improvement on defense from game one to game three that is just fact.
  3. I am not claiming Texas will come in and dominate. As a matter of fact,I think iSu wins. I am saying, their defensive front is better than iowa's

I agree that athletically Texas is better, but the Iowa defense is just so darn sound. Rarely do you see them give up a big play. They all know were they are suppose to be, and sit back and wait for the mistakes to happen. Texas will come right at ISU. It will be ugly at times, but still think there is going to be some hole, blown coverage, etc from TX.

iowa had breakdowns. Texas will have breakdowns. There will be opportunities, I just think Texas has a better defense overall. Two completely different defensive philosophies. There is no doubt about that

Im not worried about their front 7. Iowa had probably the 2nd best front 7 they will face all year and Texas is not #1
Iowa's front 7 has allowed 38 points (in regulation) to Iowa State, and almost 600 yards to Ped State. But hey, they were really good against Wyoming and North Texas.

What Texas should do: Let their front 6 take care of ISU's running game, drop 5 into coverage, read Park's eyes as he sometimes falls in love with receivers.

What Texas has done in the past: Put corners on islands assuming their athletes are better. Bring blitzes majority of the time.

What Texas will do: ?? Haven't watched enough Tejas football to know.

I want to see Montgomery get more and more involved in the passing game. A dump down pass to him can easily turn into a big play with his ability to break tackles.
After rewatching the USC/Texas game...this was a way USC could have hurt Texas if their RB could actually catch a ball or if their WRs could block worth a crap. WR screens, short passes, and swing passes to the RB...all ways to attack Texas.

One thing I noticed is Darnold did not move well in the pocket and was easily rattled. I think Park moves better in the pocket and we have seen him stay pretty calm. Although, he hasn't been hit much.

I imagine Fans will be moaning every time we throw horizontally but that is a great way to attack and soften up Texas. Butler in the slot hitting the soft spot int he middle...

I agree depth-wise they are probably better, but can everyone agree that USC is no where near as good as the hype that they are getting???
I agree with that. Darnold isn't as good as proclaimed either

You have to bring pressure or Park will sit back and pick apart a defense as he did against Iowa's 2nd half base defense. As many posters have said, we will see a lot of pressure the rest of the way. If our OL can pick it up and Park makes good decisions, our offense will be tough to stop.

My point is...it's not what they do. They almost always bring extra bodies. It is an attacking defense
Rewatched the Texas/USC game and they routinely only brought 4 with a 5th being a linebacker blitzing part of the time.

Of course situationally they brought more pressure.
