Quick Thoughts on Texas

I thought the strip of QB Ehlinger from Texas by USC in OT which was allowed by the referees, was similar to the strip made by Jeremiah George that was blown dead and not allowed when Iowa State played Texas a few years ago. We definitely got hosed by the refs on that call.

Texas has talent. Should be a great game. Pack the Jack.

Hard to tell with TX. Maybe USC is simply overrated, again. Maryland averaged 6.1 yards per carry and 18.3 per pass in their game with the Longhorns. They gave up 482 yards in that game. Texas also scored on a pick 6, and punt return, which you can't count on happening every game.

Bottom line is take care of the ball, stop the run game from going wild and don't forget to cover the WR and ISU should be fine. TX has better athletes, which is alway the case. Just need to pick your spots and make plays.

I think this game partially depends on how Texas responds to that tough loss.

Are they going to pack it in like the Texas teams of the past few years? Or will they come in pissed off and wanting to prove something during prime time?

USC's defensive backs looked physical and tall. I am worried about our secondary ALOT.

If Stanley was more accurate on long balls, Iowa would have had a few TD's on us because our DB's were beat.

They got beat by Akron for their first TD too.

The Texas receivers are better than those two teams. I think it comes down to how often ISU can pressure TX's QB in pass situations. Because I believe their QB Is their weak link.

TX's Defense looked good I thought, however I thought USC had a lack of imagination on play calling throughout the whole game.

It SHOULD be a pretty even match come Thursday nights game.

I think Maryland is better than people think and I also think Texas is vastly improved from week 1 under a new coach. I'm afraid next Thursday could be a long night for us similar to last years game.

I've seen ISU teams get blown out bc they were just out manned. I've seen ISI teams win and be competitive bc the team fought harder.

With this team the gap of talent is less, it all depends on execution. If the team comes out and executes the way it suppose to then I feel comfortable with them winning. If they don't. Then it'll be a loss. In some ways it's nice to know that the talent gap is not what it used to be.

I think last year, in Austin, ISU was just intimidated by the size of TX, and the atmosphere. I don't see this team being scared of anything or anybody. They may not be able to match up with the Texas talent, but I think they have enough talent and size to make this a game. Just have to be patient and not make stupid TOs. Texas gave up 6.1 yard a carry and 18 yards per pass against Maryland, so they are capable of giving up some big plays.

Yes, I get the feeling that Jacob Park doesn't give a **** who he's playing against.

The last time I went into the Texas game having high hopes was 2011 and it was 34-0 before I could even blink.

The times ISU has won or come close were surprises because it wasn't like UT didn't have talent all over.

I'm not real sure why people have been as confident as they have; they look pretty good outside of a bad first game and getting beat by a decent Maryland team.

ISU will need to be very sharp in two weeks.

I understand your thoughts, but there is no guarantee of history repeating itself. This is not one of those ISU teams that folds up the minute something go wrong. They showed that multiple times against Iowa. Yes, Texas has a bunch of very talented guys, but there has always been that huge talent disparity with ISU. Texas defense was very impressive last night, but got smoked by Maryland, so I am not ready to label them as the monsters of the midway just yet. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'm not saying they're monsters of the midway. Even when Texas has been marginal they handled ISU.

I think this will be the first real measuring stick for how good ISU is. The first three games showed some potential here and there but the competition didn't tell us much.

This is the history of ISU vs TX. Sure there are a few blowouts in there, but for the difference in money, talent and tradition, ISU has done pretty well.

Iowa is not a great team, but they are pretty good. Also, I see this ISU team getting better as the season goes on. So many new starters that are going to get things figured out.

I actually have a good feeling about this game. I'm less impressed with USC than I am intimidated by Texas. I expect our players to be more dialed in under the primetime lights than they were with Akron.

I agree about USC. Their offensive line play was underwhelming. The 4th ranked team in the nation should have gotten more than 71 yards rushing and not allowed 9 TFL. Texas' defensive front seven is good, but not THAT good.

I get it, but I'll take it as ISU doing well when they're winning. If I went by oh-so close calls, I could say ISU has done pretty well in football. :)
