Found these quotes from Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman director) to be very interesting:

“I feel like one of the most ironically sexist things that happened to women heroes for so long was that they had universal storytelling taken away from them. So, male superheroes could have Lois Lane. They can have love, they can have vulnerability, they can have complexity. But women superheroes or strong women characters had to be, ‘I don’t need anyone, I’m the toughest person in the world.’ That’s not fair to anybody. No human being is an island like that.

“Chris Pine was a rare and special casting. We wanted a man who was a true parallel to Diana. A giant spirit who is the kind of man one aspires to be, but isn’t afraid to be complex and leave room for and even compliment another. He’s the kind of man women want to believe is out there. He’s also one of the best actors I’ve ever worked with.”

The bolded part above is why I think Wonder Woman is such a great movie, why Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman character is so charismatic and endearing in the film, and why I think Patty Jenkins is such a great director. She gets it. I think ultimately where many feminist ideals fall short is that "I don't need anyone, I'm the toughest person in the world" mentality and thought pattern when life, women, and men are much more complex than that. In fact, the strongest people out there I see find their strength through their complex interactions with everyone around them, and its those people that tell the most compelling stories. Men aren't that simple, and neither are women, and both have their innate strengths that make them great and special which shouldn't be downplayed.

Don't know if people saw this recently, but James Cameron went on record bashing Wonder Woman as pretty much a step back in feminism. In fact, he didn't really hold back at all. However, now Patty Jenkins has responded herself in defense of Wonder Woman. With that said, I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on the matter. If anything, I think it makes James Cameron look like an ignorant ass (my liking for him in general has been falling), and makes me love Patty Jenkins that much more. I'm posting this in response to a post of my own praising Patty Jenkins after I saw Wonder Woman initially and my thoughts have not changed. Patty Jenkins just gets it, and I also think that is a lot of the reason why Wonder Woman was so successful and why Gal Gadot was so loved in the role. Again, I'd love to hear other people's thoughts.

His biggest criticism of Wonder Woman was that Gal Gadot is attractive and he compared her to Linda Hamilton, who he described as "not a beauty icon." It's kind of like that husband that got roasted on social media recently because he posted about how he loves of his "curvy" wife. Keep in mind that Cameron was married to Hamilton for awhile and he was also married to director Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) who has seen her own share of success. It's looking like his personal opinion is probably having some affect on his professional opinion, so I don't see it as that big a deal - and frankly I doubt women in Hollywood do either.

Good thoughts. Not only am I impressed by the movies Jenkins makes, but the way she eloquently responds and holds herself to the public is arguably even more impressive. This isn't the first time she has written or said a really well thought out response to criticisms. She also does a good job of stating her thoughts, but always does so in a kind/non-hostile way. In this James Cameron case, she had every right to defend herself, as those word Cameron said were really pretty harsh, but in her response, she refused to stoop to his level. She kept it classy.

As for Cameron, he is just coming off more and more as a self-righteous crotchety old man who wants to make all his thoughts known because he believes he rules the cinema. I've also learned more and more behind the scenes stuff on him over the years, talking about how much of an ass he is on sets and how he really just isn't a nice person. So, maybe he's always been this crappy type of man and in his older years, he is just more publicly vocal on things. In fact, I'm getting to the point where I kind of hope his Avatar sequels crash and burn.

John Cena and Joshua Sasse (from the show Galavant) are rumored to be the targets to play superhero Shazam!

I've only had a few minutes to digest, but John Cena would be absolutely perfect to play Shazam. That movie may be a bit too kid-friendly for some, but Shazam is a kid-friendly superhero in the first place. I've been nervous since they announced they were working on a Shazam movie because it seems like a difficult character to put on film, given the current tone of the DCEU. John Cena and The Rock (as Black Adam) facing off in a Shazam sequel would sell tickets tomorrow.

Not DCEU related, however, I did just recently finish up the latest round of DC TV shows, which includes The Flash (Season 3), Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2), Arrow (Season 5), and Supergirl (Season 2). Therefore, I figured I'd not only update my superhero TV show rankings to include all those seasons, but I'll also give a little short review for each:

The Flash (Season 2): In general, this show has take a step backward with every new season, including this one. The likable characters and heart is still there in this show, but the middle of this season was really weak and felt stretched out. Luckily, it redeemed itself somewhat towards the end.

Arrow (Season 5): For a series that has been going drastically downhill, this season was a major step back up. You could tell the creators tried really hard to go back to this show's more grounded roots with grounded villains, and it worked. Not only was the storytelling and villain Prometheus good, but they also worked to weed out, minimize, or redeem all the characters I really don't like in this show. However, it took them half the season to do it.

Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2): I really cannot stand this series. While most the characters aren't terrible, the way they use them are. This show not only has terrible storytelling, but it just goes way overboard with the cheese and camp. How they play out the villains in particular is just so so stupid with really terrible motivations. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse than Season 1, Season 2 came along. Please please get rid of Damien Darhk. I can't stand that dude.

Supergirl (Season 2): This season was just a solid fun season similar to the first season. Nothing amazing, but nothing bad. This series really rides less on an amazing story and more on the coattails of its likable charismatic characters, particularly Melissa Benoist as Supergirl. How and who they introduced as Superman was really solid too. Shoot, even how they pulled off and played The Guardian throughout the season turned out much better than I expected (I thought it was be terrible and really contrived). This series biggest fault might be how heavy-handed it can be on the good ole "social justice warrior" front at times, but its likable characters allows to to just kind of ignore and look beyond it.

Here is my updated superhero TV rankings to include all these.

  1. The Flash (Season 1)
  2. Daredevil (Season 2)
  3. Daredevil (Season 1)
  4. Arrow (Season 2)
  5. Arrow (Season 1)
  6. Legion (Season 1)
  7. Arrow (Season 5)
  8. The Flash (Season 2)
  9. Supergirl (Season 1)
  10. Jessica Jones (Season 1)
  11. Supergirl (Season 2)
  12. Luke Cage (Season 1)
  13. Agents of Shield (Season 2)
  14. Agent Carter (Season 1)
  15. The Flash (Season 3)
  16. Powerless (Season 1)
  17. Agents of Shield (Season 1)
  18. Agents of Shield (Season 3)
  19. Agent Carter (Season 2)
  20. Iron Fist (Season 1)
  21. Preacher (Season 1)
  22. Arrow (Season 3)
  23. Constantine (Season 1)
  24. Arrow (Season 4)
  25. Legends of Tomorrow (Season 1)
  26. Legends of Tomorrow (Season 2)

I'm officially moving on to Agents of Shield Season 4 next. Based on some of the mixed thoughts on The Defenders, I thought I'd shimmy in AOS first to get me a little Ghost Rider action. Plus, I still like to mostly follow timelines.

Gavin O'Connor (recently directed The Accountant) will be writing and directing Suicide Squad 2.

Not a super exciting choice, but not a bad one. I really liked The Accountant, even though it wasn't amazing, and at least this dude is lots better than some of the other directors that they've tried to get lately for the spot. However, I've still been holding out some hope that they could line up things with Mel Gibson. He probably would have been my first choice.

Hawk and Dove have been cast for the Titans live-action series (based on Teen Titans). They will be recurring characters, not permanent cast members.

Hawk will be played by Alan Ritchson (played Aquaman in Smallville)

Dove will be played by Minka Kelly

Not super familiar with Hawk and Dove but from what I know I like the Alan Ritchson casting. Not super familiar with Kelly but she is very easy on the eyes :)

https://www.comicbookmovie.com/supe...emingly-confirms-man-of-steel-2-talks-a153856

Well, apparently Matthew Vaughn has officially confirmed he is at least in some type of talks with WB about directing a Man of Steel 2 movie. Finally. This is the movie I want to see, way more than any Joker and Harley or Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, or even Nightwing Movie. I've always been annoyed with all the movies they've been talking about doing BEFORE a Man of Steel 2 movie. Granted, some of them I'm okay with, some of them not so much.

Bought the 4K blu ray disc for Wonder Woman this week and watched it last night. First of all, man that movie in 4K UHD looks spectacular, particularly the whole no-mans land sequence. Secondly, I loved that movie the first time I watched it in theaters and the second viewing didn't change that at all. In fact, it may have made me like and appreciate it even more. Sure, there are still a few gaping plot holes, particularly how they can be partying in a town safely behind enemy lines and also be just a short distance from this monstrous German party. Nevertheless, the movie is good enough that I can just kind of ignore those. Also, things still do get a bit too dark typical destruction orgy at the end for my liking, but at least it isn't Batman vs Superman bad in that category.

Anyway, great move before and still stands as a great movie. In fact, it is definitely up there with some of my all-time favorite superhero movies. It also stands as my favorite superhero movie of the year, and that says quite a lot.

Danny Elfman says that John Williams iconic Superman Theme will be featured in Justice League, but with a twist:

There are a few little fan moments. I instated a moment of the Wonder Woman theme that Hans Zimmer did for Batman Vs. Superman, but I also had two minutes where I had the pleasure of saying, “Let’s do John Williams’ Superman.” And that for me was heaven, because now I have a melody to twist, and I’m using it in an actually very dark way, in a dark moment. It’s the kind of thing that some fans will notice. Some won’t. It’s a moment where we’re really not sure whose side he’s on.

Elfman also states that there will be musical elements similar to what he used in the Tim Burton Batman movie.
