Update so far I have gotten mostly "I hate you" comments. I will consider that a success

There's an interesting article on ESPN about the status of Rio after the Olympics. It seems like certain cities can benefit from hosting, but some just end up with so much debt while their citizens end up much worse off.

I remember how the Olympic Village at Sochi turned into a $50 billion wasteland shortly afterwards, too. The amount of excess, waste and corruption going on while people starve to death is really depressing.

<steps off soap box and kicks it in frustration>

It's bad enough when the local economies get ****** to build big stadiums for billionaires but at least Minneapolis isn't building an Olympic venue. They are hosting the Stupid Bowl in six months but that is just going to cost lots of money and disruption and then it's over.

Budapest, Hamburg and Rome wised up and withdrew their bids for 2024. LA gets 2028 as the lone bidder.

You have to have a post Olympic plan in place before you bid on hosting. In fact the IOC should require it but they're too busy counting all their bribe money. You build all this stuff, there is no reason why you can't have a plan on what to do with it.

It's kind of awkward seeing somebody who has passed away a couple years ago get birthday wishes on facebook. "Happy Birthday :)" " Enjoy your special day!"

I have a FB friend who died very unexpectedly. I saw people wish her happy birthday as a way of remembering her (mentioning "we miss you" or "wish you were still here") but in your case it doesn't sound like those kind of wishes.

It has not been shut down. It's not funny, but it is funny that you would forget somebody died not that long ago.

Actually thought about this earlier this week. Someone used a HS friends FB to post that she had died. Made me look up what happens to accounts. Do I unfriend her? Is that rude? Found that if you designate someone they can delete it or turn it into a memoriam page. Of course, like all FB instructions, it was clear as mud how to do this.

Yeah there are a couple "Happy Heavenly Birthday" but most of the people seem out of the loop.
