Kids are really happy morning swim lessons ended last week, cause getting those little whiners in the pool for lessons would be really difficult this morning.

My mother gave swimming lessons at the local pool in exchange for free family membership. I've been around water pretty much since infancy, and was a "waterbaby" before that became common. I could "swim" before I could walk. It was more like treading water & floating though, with precious little forward motion, but it was enough to keep me from drowning before someone could get to me. The actual "official" strokes came later (although I never really mastered the butterfly).
I didn't take formal lessons until we lived in Florida. At that point, I was 12, and it was the Jr & Sr life-saving courses. We moved back to Washington before I did my WSI, and I never bothered up there.

TMI!

All of that is background for my response to the "getting the little whiners in the pool" comment - our classes were the earliest, as soon as it was light enough to see. It wasn't particularly warm, but we were always eager to get in the water because it offered protection from the damned mosquitoes!

The Marion pool has had a rough week. Tuesday they had to close since someone pooped in the water sometime on Monday but were scheduled to reopen on Wednesday. However Tuesday night someone broke in/climbed the fence or whatever and broke glass both in the pool and on the deck. Thus they had to drain the entire pool which is a decent size and clean it all. I believe they were hoping to reopen today and finish swim lessons next week.

KC, my lifeguards boys have a bribe bag. They found a bunch of junky little toys around the house (old Happy Meal toys, bouncy balls, hacky sacks, and the like). Then they let the little kids pick a prize based on the order they get in the pool when told. One girl still would only get in by clinging to my son. This by the way is why girl lifeguards wear one piece suits for lessons, I know this from personal experience.

When I was still working, my kids were in daycare at the old Y and one of them dog paddled the length of that pool in a swim diaper before he was one. Granted, he had flotation help from the diaper.;)

Wow, that is rough. I don't think we close that long for the old tootsie roll in the pool, which happens fairly often. The glass would be bad. My boys always seem to get the job of sweeping the deep end (with water in it). Kids go in the sand play area, don't use the foot shower, and all of the sand migrates to the deep end.

Dissapointing ;)

LittleWx loves to swim and MrsWx's grandparents have a pool so we go over there whenever it is nice and he swims all around with his life jacket on.
