Dawson gone?

He already has his degree, so maybe he just overestimated how much he still wanted to play football and pursue a graduate degree. Good news for him is that even without anymore football in his future he does have his degree from Michigan which is going to be more important to him in the future then playing another year of of P5 NCAA football.

I understand the basketball graduate transfers more than football transfers. In hoops it's a chance to play with a winner, maybe move up to a P5 league and perhaps get to play some pro ball overseas. In football, it's a LOT of hard work without any promise of pro overseas reward. If you don't love the **** out of playing football it just doesn't make sense to do it.

Is the workout thing really true? I mean, he's coming from Michigan, did he expect to skate through or something? I can't imagine our workouts are that much more grueling than theirs.

It may sound weird but Michigan's interior Oline has been junk for the duration of Dawson's career or at least most of it. They had talent but some really bad coaching for a few years. I think there was one interior guy drafted and he was a walk on. That probably put him behind and then he could never crack a lineup that was probably just as crackable as ours. I'd have to go look but I'm pretty sure that every year he was there, they were trying to make a freshman work somewhere because he and others couldn't do the job. He's also been hurt a lot.

Probably the belief he could walk into a spot at Iowa State with little effort and likely a good indicator of why Michigan wasn't broken up to lose him

Not that he would have stayed, but I highly doubt he had the choice.

He appeared in a grand total of 12 games, so apparently they weren't too enamored with him. I'm guessing it's what you said: He thought he'd come to a lesser program and start immediately.

So much for him being the next Bobek.

Here's what I know: Definitely stuff going on back home for David of a personal nature that impacted this.

Good news is that the staff had plenty of heads up, hence the Knipfel addition (which they like a lot BTW).

Hate to lose the depth but I don't think this will end up being a huge deal in the fall. We'll see.

I posted this on Saturday in a different thread. But he quit over a week ago. Took the staff like 3 days to break him. Pathetic.

No need to be a **** about it. If true then better now than later, or maybe he has a lot more going on in his life than you know.

I can't speak to anything else going on in his life, just what happened while he was here.

Maybe it's more of a thing where his heart just wasn't in it and therefore wasn't putting forth the effort in workouts more them being too tough for him. My guess is he doesn't play anywhere next year

Until I know otherwise, I will just assume that there was something personal that was happening at home that interfered with his focus on workouts here. I take it seriously when CW says there is more to the story than has been posted publicly. So let's not just trash the guy for not working out.

Part of why he broke from the workouts could be the mental stress of things going on in his personal life. If your mind isn't 100% in the workouts and thinking of the crap going on being broke by a workout would be an easy thing to happen.

He does. Not my place to make it public though.
Thanks for respecting his privacy, Chris. Oftentimes, our morbid curiosity gets the better of us, we lose perspective and our priorities end up askew.

With so much social media available and so many blogs being written, it is really easy to obtain information (not necessarily always accurate). Sometimes, we need to take a step back and realize that some people don't want every element of their private lives on display. I know that I don't.

Looks like it. 1 for 4 now with Bobek, Catalina, Rodgers, and Dawson. For some reason the grad transfer doesn't work for us in football.
This is true for OL grad-transfers, but there is also, M. Murdock, Evrett Edwards, and Reggie Wilkerson....

Holy crap, tough crowd o_O

I guess I'd rather have him than not. I know Tom Manning is an offensive line whisperer, but it wasn't that long ago that we had like 2 P5 caliber linemen . . .
