His height doesn't concern me, I'm more leery of his slight build being able to take the grind of a big 12 season. That said, I think he's legit and seems to play very smart. His positives definitely outweigh the risk. He could be special in a few years.

I think Mitchell is similar to Deshaunte Jones. His High School plays such high level competition that he will be prepared and knows how succeed/survive against guys he will see in the Big 12.

I think height matters more at the NFL level. There are plenty of shorter college QB's that were successful. Seneca, Todd Reesing, Chase Daniel, Manziel, among others

I know these are highlights but-- Wow! This kid is fast, quick, tough, can throw an accurate deep ball and looks extremely polished. Re-al is going to look good in the Cardinal and Gold.

Probably, but even in the NFL quite a few solid quarterbacks under 6 feet Drew Brees, Russell Wilson, Michael Vick, and Doug Flutie come to mind.

Throwing release point/height is important, but QB height often seems like another one of those NFL measurables that people care too much about. Some much more goes into the qualities of a good quarterback that I don't even think it is necessary or wanted that I make a list.

However, it seems evident that if you are shorter quarterback scrambling and mobility are a must which it appears Mitchell is quite adept.

I believe I read that he is changing his throwing motion leading up to the season.

Very impressive.

I can see all of the Wallace comparisons. However, the one thing that I thought was most impressive about Wallace was his ability to scramble left and throw across his body accurately and with pace, without breaking stride. With most QBs when they scramble to their offhand you can concentrate your defense to that third of the field. With Seneca he was fully capable of rocketing a ball back to even the far hash mark with no loss in accuracy or velocity. It looked like his upper body was attached with a swivel to his legs.

There weren't a lot of examples in those two videos of Mitchell passing when scrambling left but when he did he seemed to almost exclusively pass toward the left sideline or if he did pass across his body, hop which can definitely affect velocity and control.

This is picking nits, though. He is very impressive. It is definitely exciting to watch the kid find a hole and make everyone on the other team appear to run backward. It is also cool to see him slide, step up or actually full scramble without his eyes ever leaving his receivers downfield.

I am less concerned about his height and more about his hands. Remember, the biggest thing Seneca had going against him was his small hands. I still can't even think about that OU game in the cold rain...

I will be holding my breath until he makes it on campus. It appears he can be a difference maker.

I want to re-up this thread on early signing day on the hype train for Re-al Mitchell. Highlight tape is awesome, as is the fact that he was QB at the #3 ranked HS in the nation (bring your friends??), as are the stories of his mom (former track athlete at Nebraska and American Gladiator) and dad (Marine Corps and gladiator-show-competition of Knights and Warriors), and other assorted tidbits included in the articles - some from earlier in this thread -collated here for your signing day convenience:

“I’ve been working really hard since I was small,” Re-al Mitchell said. “I haven’t just gone off athleticism. I’ve put in a lot of hard work. So it makes it even better.”

What stood out about Iowa State was the relationships Mitchell made with the Cyclones coaching staff. He also liked the idea of living in the Midwest — like his mother did as a student-athlete at Nebraska.

My whole mission is to put a school on the map and I feel like I can do that at Iowa State,” he said.

Mrs. M. looks like she could put some zip on a football.

Pretty good background for a QB in that family.
