I don't have a really good place to put this, so I'm going to post it here in the random thoughts thread.

I cured and smoked my own bacon this week for the first time. Took it and sliced it up last night and I'm really proud of how it turned out. I'm going to try some different rubs/cures/smokes moving forward to try some new things.

Need a love button.

Made Jello cake and coconut cream pie for church fish fry.

Have two of the kids taxes done and they even have their federal refunds back. Putting off ours and the son who has two states.

2nd year of taxes, I had to file for WI, IL, and IA. And was considered self-employed for the IL work. It was much fun.

Yikes. At least kid in Florida doesn't have to do state one. I guess benefit of living in cheap ass state with lots of crime.

First year of marriage included three states of employment, two "permanent" addresses, and then the whole marriage thing. Uuuuugggggghhhh.

I've done that two state thing a few times. Pain in the rear.
When we moved here from CA, I did a ballpark and found that CA owed us about $45-$50. I figured let them keep it.
WRONG!
Several YEARS later they sent us a notice of payment due. Not because we owed them money before, but because we didn't file, and they dolled it up with a bunch of fines & interest.. Net result - we ended up paying them a couple hundred. Still haven't figured out how that happened, but it was in 1984, soooooooooo...

Today was a bittersweet day. My grandmother went to a nursing home after getting out of the hospital. In the few weeks since it was apparent that the change is a permanent one so today we began the process to cleaning out her senior living apartment. Came across a box of stuff she had saved that I made for her as a little kid. Really got the emotions going. Grandma's are the best. Can't wait to pay her a visit and give her a big hug.
