The Prohm Effect

I'll add that I can't wait to see how Prohm molds guards Wigginton, McNeil, and Lewis when getting them from Day 1. I also have a feeling that he has big things in mind for Babb. He has too much ability to be a wallflower. Does/can Prohm turn him into his next great pg?

Prohm said at the beginning of the season that Babb has more NBA potential than anyone else on the roster (can't find the quote now, anyone else remember this?). After seeing a few of the plays he made this weekend in KC, it's easy to see what Prohm saw months ago. I think Babb is just scratching the surface. If he works on becoming more consistent with his shot this off-season, he could be a monster.

Between Babb, Wigginton, and Donovan Jackson we should have a solid, versatile backcourt next year. They aren't Monte, but they should still be able to get the job done.

I didn't hear that. Thank you for sharing! I completely agree about Babb. Plus he's great on defense. I'll be disappointed if he's not a big part of our offense.

Thoughts on McNeil? I didn't think much of him for next year, but his recent tapes look very good. Plus I think he actually has been playing point guard.

It's always hard to tell how players will transition from high school to the Big 12, but I've been pretty impressed with the video's I've seen. He's unbelievably quick. If he can work his way into the rotation by the end of next season, I think you could call his freshman year a success.

The guy that no one is talking about that I think could surprise is Jakolby Long. He was a top 100 recruit but hasn't seen the floor much. To be honest we probably should have redshirted him this season. If he improves over the off-season I think he could be very useful off the bench next year.

Yes! He's a bit slight , but he looks quick and can shoot. I remember when Blalock came in with more attention, but Stinson was the beast that year.

It would be huge if Jakolby became a success story like Naz. I wonder if he'll have to change his game like Naz by becoming a SF?

So many prospects at guard. We just need some posts. Damn I wish we'd landed Stokes.

I'm curious to hear what people's expectations are for Cameron Lard next year?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think if we can land a decent grad transfer or two, preferably a wing that can score and a post (easier said than done), and Lard is ready to play we could get back to the tournament next year. Seems like most around here are expecting a rebuilding year.

Wasn't Solomon Young injured at the beginning of the season? It seems he was a little behind in getting up to game speed and still seems to get better every game as the mental part becomes ingrained and he can react instinctively.

Excuse this potential thread derailment, but I didn't want to start a new thread for fear of appearing frantic(I'm not):

Marty & Miller were just talking about how Prohm's wife is close to due with child and the potential of his child's birth happening during the tourney and him going to be his wife. I definitely wouldn't criticize him if that came to pass and know I shouldn't worry over it.. I just can't help but fear that scenario now that it has been revealed to me..
My only criticism of Prohm so far since he's been hired. Couldn't he kept it in his pants for a few more months and planned for a June baby?;)

In the words of my wife on our unexpected (yet extremely thankful and blessed) pregnancy: "We weren't exactly thinking 9 months down the road that night."

They were totally Hioballing the 'neers. We spread them out and then dribble penetrate, with options to kick out. Beating them so bad they had to resort to their junk zone which they figured out eventually as well.

This is the best hybrid of Hoiball. We run, we space the floor and with Monte and Burton able to run the half court as well. Mix in some above average defense and we got Prohmball.

I'm ecstatic with the results we've seen this year and last. Hopefully we've got a deep March run ahead of us.

That said, players win games. We'll see what types of recruits he brings in as he's still winning right now with Fred's players. He has a huge class to replace and seems to have a couple pieces coming in. He's clearly doing something right though because he's letting the guys play, they're playing with confidence (in a fairly unstructured offense with principles to guide them rather than actual plays - similar to Hoiball), and it is so much fun to watch these guys overachieve. Pretty cool to be a Cyclone right now.

I have more faith in a 5/12 game with Prohm than I ever would Hoiberg. Prohm appears to have far more ability to adjust in game than Fred ever did. Fred's teams seemed to allow themselves to get caught in another teams game (UAB, WVU blowout, others) since there was only a couple aspects to their game. Prohm teams seem to be able to react to different scenarios and win in different ways. Sure it's still fast paced but it appears to be much more rounded coaching than the past.

I think the program is truly in better hands going forward. A coach that wants to be a college coach and loves every aspect of it.

That's also where his low/mid major experience comes in handy. As he said, he's been on the other side of this draw as an assistant and head coach and he knows the hunger and prep that a team like Nevada will come in with. We've got great senior leadership that is saying (and hopefully doing) all the right things in respecting Nevada, but don't thing for a second that isn't coming straight from the top.
