Usual No Favors

It's never easy to get to the Sweet 16 unless you have an upset in your bracket.

Personally being in London, tip starts at two in the morning for me. I favor an early tip.

I love our matchups. I have us in the elite 8. I give us the edge over Purdue and Kansas. We are playing better basketball than our best point last year, which was obviously pretty good. The chemistry of this team feels as strong as Deandre Kane's year.

Any 4 seed is going to be tough. I will take Purdue, so what they got a big guy, everyone does. They play slow and are slow, should be able to run circles around them if we play like we have the last month.

Nevada is just as if not more of a challenge than Purdue. Painter thinks it is 1976 as his style of basketball is concerned. Absolutely nothing worries me about Purdue, not that they can't beat us, but I fail to see how it is a bad matchup at all. Remember, they have to guard us as well.

To a degree, yes, but Purdue has long been on the bad matchup list and those times suck.

We can beat Purdue, Solomon is going to have his hands full with Swanigan but who hasnt this year? Haas is just big, he doesnt have very good basketball skills. Our guards are much better and more experienced.

If we are going to play a 1 seed you couldnt have asked for anything more than Kansas in KC. They just had a huge crowd there Thursday and still lost. The place would be full of ISU fans again if it got to that point.

1. I have no issue. Every one seed gets seeded near a home court. Plus we just won in the Sprint Center. Our guys love that place. Basically a neural court.

2. Basically no Big 10 school besides maybe Wisconsin scares me. Purdue is big and slow and we should run them out of the gym.

3. I'd rather play later than earlier on Thursday. Gives us time to wake up and get moving. We don't have a good history of playing the early session on a Thursday.

Didn't we have early Thursday game last year? When other than UAB have we lost that game? Did we not just win an early Thursday big 12 game?

As much as I prefer KU over other #1 seeds, KU in KC keeps our tradition of rough draws. Plus Purdue is one of the few teams I didn't want, and the 9pm Thursday game is the worst time.

Here's why I couldn't disagree with the premise of this post/thread anymore:

I can't think of a #1 seed I want to be paired up with more than a Kansas team that we already know intimately well and have had more success against than basically anyone else in the nation, playing in a place that we just got done running the Big 12 tournament, and we've beaten that Kansas team in that building several times in the past.

Purdue, just like every Big 10 team this year, is extremely overrated, and, quite frankly, might not even be the team we would end up playing on Saturday.

As far as the 9pm Thursday game, that sounds like a "you problem", as it seems like an overwhelming majority of people love that start time.

You're acting like the NCAA Tournament is supposed to be easy. It's not.

In fact, I can't think of any more realistic favors the tournament committe could have done for us this year than what they did give us.

Nobody can stop these guys right now but themselves. If they are in the right place mentally and their shooting is halfway decent they can play with anybody. They just whipped a WVU team who was basically a top 10 team all year. They beat a ku team in Lawrence who was ranked #1 last week.

You guys are worried about Nevada and a mid-level big 10 team? Give me a break.

ISU is Top 10 in turnover margin. Purdue is in the 250's.

Gotta get by Nevada first.

I'm watching the experts and they have ISU vs Miami in the sweet 16. They said that Purdue struggles with teams with good guards and 3pt shooting. They said we would exploit all their weaknesses.

I really dislike this perspective and feel like it's going to bite some ISU fans in the arse. They have length and strong guard play so it'd likely be a really tough game. Throw out conference affiliation this time of year. Good is good and Purdue is good.

I'm m ore worried about Nevada than Purdue. I think our defense shuts down Nevada while our offense will out run Purdue in the end of the day.

Sounds just like the stuff they said about Notre Dame.

I watched a few Purdue games and they are a far from perfect team. Maybe built like the ND team ISU beat a few years ago? ISU is playing at a high level right now, against good teams, if they can keep that up they will be hard to beat, the first weekend.

Yes, all bracket scenarios could have been tough, its not an easy tournament. Quite frankly its a crapshoot unless you're really far and above the competition, which most teams aren't. If we wanted 'favors', we could have played a lesser opponent real close to home (like in Hilton in the NIT). I prefer this option!

Perspective. Had we gotten the 11:00 Thursday game, we'd ***** about that too.

Agreed. I was at the airport getting ready to board a plane for March Madness weekend in Vegas, and ISU had already lost in the first game of the entire tourney to UAB. Sucked rocks.

Just hard to get the energy going in an early start.
