MLB: Yordana Ventura Dies

It seems like every offseason, a player from the Dominican Republic dies in a car wreck when they go home.

Andy Marte also killed in a separate accident?

Maybe these guys shouldn't be going back to the DR.
Accidents happen everywhere. Pretty sure way more players have died in offseason accidents in the US than back home. What a horrible tragedy for him, his family and friends, teammates and the Royals organization and fans. Stinks to see any life taken too early.

I was never a big fan of the way he acted at times but the guy was very talented and had a great career ahead of him. Terribly sad news.

Fast cars. Alcohol. Bad roads. There is a reason the Royals were always on edge when Yo went back too the Dominican. Just beginning to find himself as a pitcher. Unfortunate.

Certainly seems like a disproportionate number of accidental deaths in recent years considering there are only 750 players on 25 man rosters in a country of 300 million.

Very sad day for the Royals family. You would think after his friends fatal accident he would have been more cautious.

So sad for everyone involved (family included). As a Royals fan I know this was the last good year we were going to have for probably a decade and now that seems less likely as he was a talented pitcher they cant possibly replace.

The Cards lost Oscar Taveras last year, or was it a couple years ago now, in a car accident in the Dominican. Too many great young talents dying in car wrecks, that's for sure.

It definitely sucks, Ventura had a note written on his ballcap with regards to Taveras which is a bit eerie.
