***Iowa postgame thread***

Here are my honest non trolling thoughts.

ISU is the better team. Iowa is young, and will have ups and downs. ISU came in over cocky, and expected to do whatever they wanted. This Iowa team doesn't remember what it feels like to blow large leads. Those guys are gone.

So maybe this will get guys like Morris and Long to take opponents seriously, rather than talk **** before games. Obviously they aren't good enough to just walk into another teams house and impose their will.

Very good post, and very true.

What has driven me insane over the years, first with Hoiberg and now with Prohm too, is how great our players think they are and the complete lack of effort they give if they think they are the better team. You don't see Coach K's players do that, and they are 5x the players that ISU's are. Same with Izzo's teams. Or in football, Saban. These guys get all the best players in the country, but they play HARD all the time, no matter the opponent.

ISU deserved what they got tonight, and I'm ashamed to say a small part of me is glad Iowa took it to them and made them eat their words because that is total bush league IMO when any team talks trash before the game. You talk trash by how you play on the court, or field, and nothing else matters.

But how does this not look like it's being addressed 9 months later with veteran players?

Something's not right...not ready to start putting it on Prohm since even Fred had bad many losses in December, but this isn't an Iowa team that should be able to beat many teams even if they play with their hair on fire.
This is on prohm.

Monte should be embarrassed.

Prohm should be embarrassed.

Pollard should be nervous.

It's been a LONG time since we've seen an ISU team that looked like they had no clue what they were doing and didn't play with a sense of urgency. That is 100% coaching.

Our best coach graduated last year. Gonna be a long season, I'm afraid.

Maybe this is the football hangover talking, but in one fell swoop I've gone from raving enthusiasm to complete and total indifference.

Thank you, Cyclones, for humiliating me once again. Thank you for taking the one thing we could brag about and shitting all over it.

I've always said, even when we're good at something, we'll find some way to attain futility. I hope we never earn a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament because I have no doubt we'd be the first #1 to lose to a #16. Looks like I don't have to worry about that anytime soon.

We don't have a go-to on offense when we need it. Georges absolutely spoiled us by being able to get that bucket. He also drew the defense's attention, allowing Matt and Naz to spot up.

Nobody on this team, outside of Burton, really scares a defense when it comes to creating his own shot. When Burton's off, we have been in bad shape so far.

That's why ball movement is so damn important. And unfortunately, we have zero inside-out ball movement since we have zero inside presence or threat.

Regarding that, I agree with the overall consensus on Holden. Ride the pine until you learn how to defend, box out and rebound. I'm trying to figure out the minutes he's been getting.

Not sure where Gunnerclone and Cyclonepride are tonight. Cincy was an underrated team that just beat us in a rock fight. Well we just got pummeled by an uptempo NIT squad by double-digits. This team doesn't get any easy two's....everything is a contested mid-range jumper. They are better defensively then last year but this is not the type of squad that can just peel off a 13-0 in two minutes. They simply are not built that way.

This should be a complete wake up call to this squad and the coaching staff. We have built something special over the course of the last five years and this team is certainly in danger of snapping the NCAA tournament streak. Who is the Big 12 are we going to play that is worse than Iowa. TCU maybe Texas. Is this squad going to beat Kansas, Baylor or West Virginia. Someone last week laughed at the 18-12 assessment....at this point I think we will be lucky to get to that point.

Huh? Why are you calling me out? I was making fun of us after that game.

You mean "average", right? He's not above average right now.

Oh, horse ****. Monte just needs to be Monte. He's an elite floor general. He is not the guy that everyone seems to be telling him he needs to be (the only thing I agree with Calhoun about). He's just not an elite scorer, and that's okay, but if we keep game planning as if he's that guy, we're going to have issues.

It appears that Coach Prohm needs to adjust the starting lineup a bit. It is obvious that the Clones need Weiler-Babb's energy and it was good to see Young back in the lineup from his injury..

Iowa is flat out garbage, giving up about 90 a game, and we can't score against them. Just an embarrassment.

Iowa will go on to have a horrible year, mark it down. ISU can be pretty good if they want to, we'll see if they want it or not? Tonight they obviously didn't want it or didn't care. Looked like both.

STFU. Iowa is playing a bunch of freshmen who will get better as the year goes on. Stop whining.

Monte is just a game manager, and we are seeing that being exposed this year. Naz isn't the same. Matt is good but he is better as a role player. Burton is inconsistent. Holden isn't a Big 12 player, Bowie is just slightly better. D-Jack isn't as good as advertised. Babb and Young have potential and are younger bright spots on the team, but aren't ready to carry the load.

Pretty good assessment.

Go back and read through the Hoiberg departure threads, and you'll see a number of people who predicted what we are seeing this year. ISU basically took two years off of recruiting prior to Prohm's arrival, and is now paying the price. ISU doesn't have upper classmen who can rebound and drive the ball to the hoop against meaningful competition. Big 12 caliber posts/rebounders are a rare commodity on the transfer market, and Prohm grabbed what he could to fill the holes.

Somehow, Prohm has got to figure out some scheme that works with what he has. Like somebody mentioned above, it might require benching some seniors...

And cocky. He says before the game "we’re trying to go out there and beat them badly.” Who does that? Funny, I can't imagine a Villanova player saying that...
And openly talking about how he's going to have a post win celebration gesture that will put the kiss to shame...only to get beaten handily by a team full of freshman. Yeesh. I do wonder what it was going to be though lol

I'm right here, still not overreacting.
