This team has potential!

Quite a bit has changed since the first couple games whether or not you want to believe it. If you mean change as in us winning many more games than the last few years, it most likely won't happen but its year 1. Campbell is changing the culture and doesn't seem to be cutting any corners so it will take time. Being competitive against a really good team is a step in the right direction. If we keep getting better and competing, I'll be happy. If we're in the same spot in year 4, my tune will definitely change.
MINE ALSO. I will stop posting. LOL:cool:

Unfortunately, I've heard this story before.
I hate to be Debbie Downer, but when moral victories start turning into real victories, I'll believed we turned the corner.

Sorry, but this is one game, been here too many times in the past, to believe anything has changed.
No you haven't been here before. This team put up a fight against a ranked team and didn't need luck or fluke plays to be in a position to win. Count how many times ISU been in that position before? I can only think of a couple.

I've seen ISU lose in almost every way imaginable. What i saw today and last week is somethingI rarely ever see ISU do consistently which is play good football.

You do realize we came very close to beating a ranked team without a getting a single turnover? That means the team to be in that position played them straight-up, man on man for 3 quarters. If they played 4 they would have won.

How nice is it to see us have more plays in the book than read option right, read option left, jet sweep left, jet sweep right? The offense was creative today. They had bunch formations split out on the opposite side from Lazard and I kept waiting for them to do something with him out there 1 on 1 but didn't happen. I really think the offense is starting to click. Hard to argue with 40+ pt efforts.

This is a great point. All of our big "CPR Upset specials" in past years we've had at least one crucial turnover (or 8, in the case of Nebby :) ). If we had one interception or fumble recovery on a Baylor drive, we likely would have won. Not an excuse, but just reinforcing how well we did considering there was no "lucky play" for us.

"If"...

We are a few good recruits away from bowling. Not a few 5 star recruits, but just a couple of young starters and a little depth.

Last year we were far away.

This year we are close, Clones. Close!!!!!!
I wouldn't say that because it's really hard to know how close we really are, but it's clear we miles ahead of where we were in the UNI game. Disappointed in the loss but this team did exactly what I was asking them to do for most of CPR's time here, which was to at least play competitively with the better teams in the conference. We did that today and that's a great start

With all the talk of this OL starting to come together and looking good for the future, I just realized that next year we get to start all over again. Four of the five OL will be gone after this season. Granted, we get Campos back, and hopefully Foster is ready to go, but that's still another year of basically rebuilding the entire line again. I don't even want to start talking about how many guys on the DL are gone after this year, but really need to hold onto the two JUCO DTs.

I truly believe the future is bright with this staff and the talent they are bringing in, but it's going to be a couple of years before we get to fully enjoy the fruits of their labor.

I've thought about that too, but my positive spin is that look how far our guys have come in this short time. All of the guys that will play next year are being coached up in this new system NOW and they are being coached by the reigning offensive line coach of the year and a head coach who is an o-line specialist. And, like you said, Campos.

If they can somehow get Chandler that would be huge. Campos, Good-Jones and Foster wouldn't be bad to build around. Would have to fill in two OGs and hope they click. Jost looks like he could be really good in the future and Nogaj just looks like a guy that could be a beast of a run blocking OG.

The offense is starting to get it going, but the line is still not good. They have improved but still not good. I'm hoping the line next year will be better. We lose Bobek, Fett, Seda and Scoggins, and who knows what is going on with Philbert. I wouldn't mind having him back next year but not as a starter. I'm wondering why the two JUCO's haven't played and how they are progressing. I could see one of them starting at a guard spot next year with Foster at LT, Campos at RT and Good-Jones at C.The skilled positions will be really good once again with the return of Warren, Montgomery and Nwangwu at RB, Lazard, Deshaunte, Epps, Butler, Ryen etc at WR, and I think we will be much better at TE with Chase Allen coming off a redshirt and return Fernandez and Harms, plus Soehner could get some PT. Plus we return Lanning and Park and Noland could beat out Kempt for the #3 spot.

Defense... the secondary has been decent and we return Cotton-Moya, Peavy, Payne and Edwards plus Azunna is going to be good I think. The LB's need to improve. D-Line could be good but we lose Tucker and that will hurt. Johnson will be a beast though and Bailey will probably end up being a good one at DE.

What I saw was a gassed team down the stretch. Lack of depth and playing balls to the wall will do that. A full off-season under Campbell's strength and conditioning, now that the guys know what to expect, will be the difference I think.

I noticed Harms was in on several plays, was the motion man a few times too. We never threw to the TE's, but the WR's were working it so that's OK.
