Let's talk for a bit about how collectively hammered Iowa City is going to be at the beginning of the game.

Over/under on the number of alcohol related arrests tomorrow? Over/under on VodkaSam's BAC at 6pm? I'm honestly predicting that this never happens again (ISU vs. Iowa night game).

Agreed. The 2002 game was the craziest, drunkest evironment I've ever experienced in my life. I know after that night they decided not to have this game at night ever again. I'm guessing they have forgotten what a **** show it will be.

Guarantee you it will be a long time before this happens at night again in Iowa City.

But give them 10 years to forget and dangle a nice TV slot in front of them and they will do it again.

Of course it's a bad idea. It'll be another ten years(give or take) before they do it again.

In 2002 I was a freshman at ISU and we tailgated in the bottom level of the parking ramp just south of the Field House near the stadium. By gametime there were people passed out everywhere and we were wading around in beer cans. ******** doesnt begin to explain the carnage in that parking ramp that day!

Over the years many have posted here of good and bad experiences for ISU fans in Kinnick,( and many have posted horrible experiences).

Most of the bad experiences seem to come from the non-Hawk grads, drunk students, etc.

While I am sure you can find some that have had bad experiences attending Ames, it really seems to be more prevalent over there to the point of what needs to be planned for.

For example. for this game the ISU Color Guard this game is totally switching up the order of where the guard stands when the band is processing or marching.

This week all freshman guard members are moved to the inside of the 4 deep row, and flag bags are switched to the outside shoulders on each side to provide protection to the guard.

Sad but true.

I cannot imagine how tailgating in a parking ramp would be an enjoyable experience in just about any circumstance.

It is sad that violence occurs at any level over a sporting event. Not acceptable at any level.

That said, immature and juvenile me (at the age of 19 years old say), would have probably thought the band and color guard are easy targets and the Drum Major and color guard leader (don't know what that position is called, if it exists) are the King of the Nerds and would be juicy targets for some pranks.

Anyway, to the OP's original point, it will likely be very rowdy with too much drinking in some circles. Although, I don't know if a night game encourages it more than an afternoon game. I feel like the students are going to party regardless.

Just like in Kindegarten, there should be a mandatory afternoon nap time for everybody that starts drinking at 6.

Honestly, I had great experiences both times I was in IC for the game. Nothing too nasty at all.

In '08 and '10, when I worked in the AD and attended this game, we had eggs, full beer cans, and rocks thrown at our official ISU vehicles as we left the stadium area and most of the way down Melrose.

And that was after we lost during 11am kickoff games. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near Kinnick in an ISU shirt or vehicle with anything ISU after a night game, win or lose.

2010 was a 2:30 kick.

Tough to beat that regional Big Ten Network coverage, after all.
I'll wager that they hadn't determined if it would be national or regional when they scheduled it. The opportunity for a possible prime time nationally televised rivalry game is tough to turn down - even if it is on the stinker that is big 10 network.
