The Best Team Doesnt Always win this Game

Yeah I can, I just did. Plus ISU has lost to FCS schools and beat Iowa the next week

I'm saying in general. Making fun of Illinois, Indiana or Minnesota doesn't hold carry any weight when you lose to Northern Iowa and lose by 50 to every week to TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma. If you lose to Northern Iowa you'd lose to everbody on Iowa's schedule. We already saw what happened when you played NDSU.

Are you talking about 2014 where we lost to NDSU and then went and beat Iowa in Kinnick?

What about 2007?

Iowa State was so bad that year, I know Iowa was too but I'd probably give the nod to Iowa being better if I had to. But to quote @Sampson " If you lose to Northern Iowa you'd lose to everbody on Iowa's schedule."

Well we lost to Northern Iowa that year and still beat Iowa

Isn't that statement just in general true? The best team doesn't always win, but they usually do.

I can think of several seasons where Iowa was the better team, but lost to us: 2007,2011,2014 are the ones that come to mind. 2002 is a different animal, if that game was played in November Iowa wins by 40

'02: possibly but that Iowa team hardly played anyone outside of Michigan until reality vs. USC, IIRC.
'07: I think Iowa was .500 that year...was that they year they got handled by some MAC school to close out the year on senior day?
'11: pretty even game (and fun) and both were .500 or just better I think. ISU's win vs. OSU is a strong indicator that they could play better outside the Iowa game.
'14: probably.

2012 sticks out as a year where it was ISU's to lose, and they almost did.

Seasons when (*modern*) Cy-Hawk winner had an inarguably less-successful season than the loser, including records and bowl results. (Game winner listed first):

1977: Iowa 4-7, ISU 8-4 (Peach Bowl loss)
1981: ISU 5-5-1, Iowa 8-4 (Rose Bowl loss)
1982: ISU 4-6-1, Iowa 8-4 (Peach Bowl win)
2002: ISU 7-7 (Smurf Bowl loss), Iowa 11-2 (Orange Bowl loss)
2007: ISU 3-9, Iowa 6-6
2014: ISU 2-10, Iowa 7-6

Washes:
1989: Iowa 5-6, ISU 6-5
1998: ISU 3-8, Iowa 3-8
2001: ISU 7-5 (Independence Bowl loss), Iowa 7-5 (Alamo Bowl win)
2005: ISU 7-5 (Houston Bowl loss), Iowa 7-5 (Outback Bowl win)
2011: ISU 6-7 (Pinstripe F****** Bowl loss), Iowa 7-6 (Insight Bowl loss)

(Obviously, this is modern-day series).

It's never about the best team overall winning a game. The team that wins the game is whichever team was the best that day. Here's hoping ISU is the better team on Saturday...
