Who do you want to see in the big 12?

So whats up with the whole no Houston because its in Texas argument? So if Houston were in Louisiana everyone would be on board right? They actually seem like a great candidate to me. Huge city that cares about football in general. Deff a program on the rise.

BYU
& (Gasp!) Colorado. Especially if what Snyder says is true: http://www.heartlandcollegesports.com/big-12-bill-snyder-two-teams-want-back-in/

Gives us a Mtn timezone buddies.
I just don't see CSU doing it for us. As somebody who went there (but graduated from ISU) I don't see them as a power 5 player. Even w/ the new stadium, people would rather go play in the mtns on a nice fall day vs watching football. Just a fact of being there.

If not those two, u have to go East and give WVU some more friends and 'made up' rivals.
After my three trips to Boulder for ISU/CU events, Colorado fans are not much better in this regard.

Cincy - WVU needs a travel partner. CMC gets a team to play in his home state should help ISU recruit.

Then you have to make a choice are we only going to be in the Eastern and Central time zones or are we going to span three.

If we are staying in the East then two of the following

Memphis, UCF, USF, UCONN

If we don't mind being in three time zones

BYU (football only) and CSU

Then for purely selfish reasons

Northern Illinois - Before you blast me, it isn't happening. But I would love to be able to drive an hour to see B12 football, they do tick a couple of boxes, and they get ISU off their own island. If we get WVU a travel partner, and do the same for BYU with CSU, then ISU is the only single outlier in the conference, we have a loose connection with Kansas and KSU, but they are more partnered then ISU being associated with them.

Let's assume it's four. I'd like to see:

BYU: obvious pick, probably best for the conference, however I don't like the idea of our guys having to play 25 year olds.

Cincy: helps get Campbell back on some familiar recruiting territory.

Memphis: Fun town, nice stadium, could bring sponsors to the league.

CSU: BYU rival? Seems like a case could be made for anybody for the last slot.

If Memphis still plays in the old Liberty Bowl that is not a nice stadium. Watched the Tennessee Oilers (transition period) play the Ravens there back in 1997 and was not impressed with it. Maybe they have renovated since then.

I'd suggest going for a Florida team. Maybe try to take Georgia Tech from the ACC also. I think they would be better than Cincy. Georgia Tech and BYU would be great adds.

If I had to guess it'd be Mizzou and Colorado.

No reason Nebby should want to leave the Big 10 West, geographical fit for the most part, worst division in P5 and they get paid.

A&M probably too proud to admit they would want to come back.

Cinci is probably at the top of the list for making sense, not sure the eastern and mountain west time zone teams want to span 3 time zones but being central time, I don't really care.

I would take Colorado and Missouri back in a heartbeat. That would be great. Gets us back to 12 teams at least. And they are no brainers as far as programs to add. Do it.

I do miss the Mizzou/ISU and Mizzou/KU rivalries in basketball. Maybe we can beat them in football now too? Memphis seems like a good idea too. Not that far of a drive for us.

They have definitely renovated since then & FedEx will turn that place into an even better venue. It would be the 3rd largest stadium in the conference (4th if BYU joins).

I've seen this a couple of times and I don't know how much of advantage we would really have. Why would a kid from Ohio choose ISU if he wanted to stay close to home and play in the Big 12. It might help some, but it would be hurt by Cincy improving recruiting.

Very intriguing, but I doubt anything becomes of it.

No way Nebraska will leave the gold mine of the Big Ten for the Texas lead Big 12. They are not coming back. Colorado I could see. Nebraska fans just need to face reality that the consistent glory years they had are in the past and not likely to repeat in the future. The landscape has changed drastically since the 1990s. They can still make a 1 or 2 year run but won't be the consistent top 10 team they used to be. If their fans think returning to the Big 12 could return them to that, they are sadly mistaken and I cannot believe they would want to return given Texas being the reason for departure and that reason still exists now. Texas holds all the cards. An Oklahoma departure is survivable in my opinion, but a Texas departure would bring it down.

Everyone talking about BYU as a football only school, need to understand that our Media Rights deals cover basketball as well. So if BYU joins football only, they don't get a full cut. BYU gets what the conference offers BYU to join. And what the Big 12 gets from the Networks is irrelevant. BYU gets $6 million per year now, I have heard. BYU needs the Big 12, not the other way around. They are pretty much screwed in the position they are in right now. Distinct possibility their contract may not be renewed when it expires.

If those are the options I say just add two to get back to twelve. Those being BYU and Cinci

I agree with this. I'd like the north to be a good reflection of the old Big 8. I miss those rivalries so much.

IMO Memphis is likely in we really just should be debating the other 1 or 3. FedEx $$$ and close proximity.

@DennisDodd To top it off ran into influential P5 coach (not B12) in hotel after expansion announcement: “memphis,â€￾ he said, “book it."

Those were good days. History and some rivalry. SEC does not have a Grant of Rights. So Mizzou could be a possibility. It would require humility on both the Conference and Mizzou to come back into the fold. They could be taken in as a full member as soon as it could be allowed. Not sure what the GOR is for Colorado. But they are likely getting far less money from the Pac 12. They left in a panic. I am sure they have regrets. Bury the hatchet and take these two back. Power 5 Conference Schools back in the Big 12 Conference.

It would be interesting to see if the Pac 12 would take to replace Colorado. Would the Pac 12 take BYU? I would like to see the Pac 12 decision on that.

Houston has already had talks with the PAC 12 (I don't know to what extent) so thats another possibility. Might be a better fit since they already have Utah

I would say Arkansas is more likely than Missouri to ever come to the B12. And I don't think it is very likely that Arkansas comes to the B12. Although, if Jerry Jones, wants it done maybe it will happen. He would love to have to have Arkansas UT games at Cowboys stadium.
