Random Thoughts VIII: The Ocho

KC, Pants, RGr8 - do you guys like movies like Cube, where a group of strangers wake up in some sort of misterious place, etc.? I watched a movie called Circle a couple of days ago that was pretty cool. No fancy special effects or anything and most of the movie just happens in one room, but it was a pretty good watch. Here is the trailer:

I've seen Cube, found it interesting, but have never seen Cube 2. I think there was also a 3.
That trailer certainly looks interesting. I don't have Netflix so I don't get to see lots of little known horror flicks. I keep saying I should dump or at least downsize my cable and just get Netflix.

Pants, I know what you mean. I lost my father in March of 2015 and believe I mentioned it for the first time on CF about a week ago.

Despite the "Drama Pants" thing, nothing bugs me more than people that go and make dramatic posts about that stuff. It just reeks of someone trying to get likes and comments on their page instead of actually caring.

Sorry for your loss. When my brother passed away, I wrote something like an obituary for him on Facebook, and I'm someone who rarely post anything on Facebook. After I completed the post, I must admit it was very therapeutic and definitely helped me on my way of the healing progress.

Any of you Minnesotans going to this tonight? I'm kinda curious if there's any excitement about the new franchise up there or not.

Sorry. I couldn't go. There was a meat raffle to attend. There was a pretty fair amount of excitement about it.

Why do people schedule really important conference calls and then the person that scheduled it calls in from their car so all you hear is road noise and the fact that they can't reference the material because they are driving.

I can't believe that people outside of Minnesota and Wisconsin don't know what a meat raffle is. You buy a ticket for a dollar and if your number is drawn you win a package of meat. It's a little scary to think that the meat is just sitting out on a table (in packaging) at a bar. Some people take it seriously enough, and plan on winning enough, that they bring coolers with them.

We attend about two a year. My FIL, when he's at his cabin outside of Brainerd, will map out the schedules for local meat raffles each day and might even attend 3 or 4 different ones on Sunday alone (like Chaser said, most of them are on Sundays). Last night I won one round at the meat raffle. I received a $20 gift certificate to a local butcher shop. This is alright but I personally think it's more fun to come home with a package of meat that has been sitting out on a table in a bar for a couple of hours (I live life on the edge).

Probably because they're not prepared for it and this is an excuse for why they sound like a dumb*ss.

Everyone on this call sounds like dumb*ss'
We are reviewing what I consider one of the most time consuming, worthless endeavors.

I had a PM at my old job that was somewhat notorious for this. He was in Montreal, we were in Wichita and the supplier and some offsite peeps were in the U.K. So we had some scheduling issues and he would call in from his car driving to/from work, grocery store and once while doing yard work.

JC got some meat last night. Congratulations????

It sounds like a way to get rid of old meat and by raffling, they aren't selling it so can't get sued if it's bad.

I've been in the cities for almost a decade now (that feels weird to say) and meat raffles still seem weird to me.

We criticize what we don't understand. While I have never been to a meat raffle and only heard of them in this thread, I'm already in love with them.
Hyvee opens in five days, they will have all the meat I need.

which is a lot

This one was right up your alley. Meat and craft beer. An awful lot of meat raffles occur at VFW's and American Legions. This one happened to be at a microbrewery so that was a bonus. Incidentally, I was impressed with the quality of the beer. Even my wife's blueberry cream ale was pretty good. It wasn't nearly as sweet as most fruity beers.
