Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

So any insiders have info on which way White might be leaning? I.e. what are our chances landing him?

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

Hurley is just going to be another in the long line of former players for Coach K that thought they could coach. Jeff Capel is back as a Duke Assistant, Collins hasn't proven anything at Northwestern. Quinn Snyder was...well, ya know. Amaker is the only guy that has accomplished anything recently after leaving Coach K's nest.

Johnny Dawkins, Wojo? I would think when the job comes open, all of these guys will be in consideration. I can't see them moving away from a "Duke" guy. But I'm sure Brad Stevens would be their first call.

Looks like we have about a 1 in 4 chance of landing him based on his list.

Dawkins has 1 NCAA appearance in 8 years at Stanford. The verdict is still out on Wojo. I'm a Duke fan and I love Coach K, but his coaching tree of former players leaves a lot to be desired.

Mike Brey was an assistant under coach K for a few years. I'm sure he'd be at the top of the phone list, as well.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

Hey Romello you want to come here and play 24 minutes a game!??!!

24 is actually very good for a freshman in the Big 12 - plus not like he's a 1 and done guy or that he'd be getting much more time at ASU or Georgia.

When I mentioned Hurley, I was also thinking beyond his being a Duke grad (but didn't state it in my original post). He comes from a family of coaches (Bob Hurley Sr. of St Anthony's is regarded as one of the top HS coaches ever), and has the coaching and playing pedigree. BUT, I would be more than happy if he isn't as successful as his pedigree would suggest he could be. I truly hope Romello comes here - but the competition, as has been already mentioned - will be stiff.

True, Hurley's dad is a great HS coach and he does seem to have a decent pedigree, but I'm just not trusting anyone that played for Coach K to be a great coach, at this point. Maybe Bobby will prove me wrong.

There are one-and-done guys that don't sniff 24 minutes per game.

Good call on Brey. We shall see if Paulus or Scheyer ever look to get HC experience somewhere.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

When does he have to sign? There's a USA Today article saying Wednesday is the last day for the late signing period. Just curious how he would drag this out.
He doesn't have to.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

I think the two 5th year guys will be starters along with the guard court but there are still lots of minutes on the front line to be had.

At the beginning of the season sure. By December I am not sure about that. Maybe, but Freshman Georges would have started after 10 games overy those guys. Not saying he is lije Freshman Georges or he will commit but a boy can dream.

Re: Romello White to Visit Memorial Day Weekend

Interesting.. You think Romelo would sign with us even if there was a slim chance he'd start his Freshman year though?

It isn't that slim. The grad transfer coming in everyone assumes is starting has efficiency rating as a Jr worse than Freshman Percy Gibson on both offense and Defense. This guy has alot more talent. To start the season I think 2 Burton/Holton start in the post but by December I wouldn't be suprised at all if it was Burton/White starting and Young and Bowie getting the bench minutes in the front court.
